Order anywhere link generator is unfortunately updated!

Postby powerstream » Thu Jul 22, 2010 3:21 pm

I use "order anywhere" exclusively on my site. I have just upgraded to
version 10.2 and the code that the link generator now creates is not compatible
with my site. Now the code is quite bloated compared with the old code,
and uses functions that my old copy of Hotmetal Pro isn't happy with.

Any way that we can have the option to generate the old, compact code?

I believe that since most merchants want to have ordering options display on store pages that the code was changed so that the default value for the Products > Edit Product Layout > Display Ordering Options: is now checked instead of unchecked. This should not have changed for existing products but would for new products.

If you uncheck that option you should get the old format for the OrderAnywhere links.

Brilliant!

Is there a way I can set this as the default for all new products rather
than have to go through the process every time?

thanks

No, there isn't a way for merchants to set that value by default in the backoffice. However, If you upload your products from a tab, xml or xls file you can set the value in the file and it will apply to the file.
The field in a tab delimited upload is "Display Ordering Options?" and you would set the value to "unchecked" (no quotes though).

"No, there isn't a way for merchants to set that value by default in the backoffice." This is a bummer! I want to be able to set the default as well as to have my own graphic for my "buy" button automatically selected.

A Pro level store will use the add to cart button assigned to the Product. A Manager or Starter level store will use the button assigned on Preferences > Store Text > Store Pages. (if you have an older version and it is a Starter store then the add to cart will always be the text setting on that screen. I think this was Changed in ShopSite 10 or 10 sp1 to use an image)

I also say "Bummer." How about adding this to the features list for the next service pack? It is very annoying.

How do you create new products, one at a time in the back office or by uploading them in a tab delimited or xml file?

If you do it one at a time in the back office here is a work around.
1. Create a new product and give it the name "! my default" in that product set the option for "Display ordering options" to unchecked (The '!' as the first character will put the product name near the top of the list of products )
2. Set any other settings that you want for all new products, such as special add to cart and view cart buttons
3. When you want a new product instead of using the Add a Product option, select the "! my default" product and use the Copy Product button to make the new product. You can give it the name and sku you want and then edit that product to set the price, order options etc and you won't have to go to the Product Layout screen to uncheck the order options.

Another way to do this would be to use the Add Several Products option and select the fields you want to have for the product as well as the "Display Ordering Options?". Then just the fields you need to fill in will be displayed and you can simply uncheck the Display Ordering Options while you fill in the other fields.

If you are uploading products just include your normal fields and add the Display Ordering Options? column and set its value to "unchecked"
