USPS First Class 13oz Weight Cutoff

We use ShopSite® Pro 10 sp1 r2 and UPS and USPS for our shipping services. We do not use any of the Shopsite Shipping Rate Calculations (“none” is selected on the shipping screen) and we do not have a custom shipping add on. Everything works great except for occasionally when a customer places a larger order (over 13 oz) and selects First Class mail; we end up having to upgrade to Priority shipping and this can really eat up our margin.

If we are using the USPS shipping services and tables shouldn’t it NOT offer the First Class Mail service if the package weight is over 13 oz? Can anyone help?

What package type do you have configured for the products, What shipping options do you have selected on the USPS shipping configurations screen?

We have First Class Parcel selected as most of our shipments ship via First Class Mail. We offer domestic and international First Class and Priority shipping.

Does anyone know if or where a tare weight for packaging can be entered?

There is no option to enter a "tare" value for packaging material. The weight of the product should be the total shipping weight including any packaging weight.

USPS has a 13 oz limit for first class mail, this is not something ShopSite has any control over.
