Security Certificate changed?

Postby Swine » Thu Jul 15, 2010 7:31 am

I got emails from two customers, one at 10:15 p.m. last night, and one at 12:15 a.m. this morning. Neither of them were able to complete sales. One of them said the problem was with the security certificate.

So, I tried to log into ShopSite and I got a security certificate warning -- which I haven't gotten before.

Once I allowed the exception and logged onto our orders, I realized that we've made no sales since 9:15 p.m. yesterday. This is unusual.

Has something changed on ShopSite that would make this happen?

Please help.

Have you upgraded your ShopSite to a newer version? If not nothing has changed in ShopSite because it isn't auto self regenerating code.

What is the error that is being reported?
Has your secure certificate for the site expired?
Did you make changes to the templates that would call non-secure images on a secure page?
Has your host made server configuration changes?
Does it happen in all browsers or just some? IE 7, IE 8 , Firefox, Chrome
What is the url to your store so we can see the problem.

Too many questions and not enough information?

Wow, thanks for the great response.

I'm not certain what the exact error message was. And I have no idea how to know if my secure certificate has expired. How can I find that out?

Haven't made any changes to any templates or anything else.
Again, since these were blind customer emails they provided no information, although when I got a security certificate warning opening ShopSite it was in FireFox 3.6.6 for PPC Mac.

Your security certificate expired. Here is the message I get from Firefox when I go to the checkout page:
You have asked Firefox to connect
securely to furfis.sslcert19.com, but we can't confirm that your connection is secure.

Technical Details

furfis.sslcert19.com uses an invalid security certificate.

The certificate expired on 7/14/2010 5:19 PM.

(Error code: sec_error_expired_certificate)

Exactly, but as I understand it, we use a shared certificate. Does that come through Verio or ShopSite?

The certificate is not provided by Shopsite. It would be from your webhost.

And here is the answer from Verio:

We apologize for any inconvenience. In response to your request, the SSL Certificate problem has be resolved. It was a server-wide problem that affected multiple customers.
