Order Processing Info

Postby Richard. » Wed Sep 25, 2002 4:32 pm

Something that's been bugging us for ages.
When the shopsite back office e-mails a copy of every order to us it adds an
"Order Processing info:" message at the bottom of every e-mail.
Now we often use that message (by simply clicking reply) to discuss the
order ( and enclose a copy of the order) with the customer . We always need
to delete this Order Processing info message from the e-mail so as not to
confuse the customer . This Order Processing info is totaly redundant for
99.99% of us merchants anyway. Any way to remove it?

No, no way to remove it (other than using Order API to write your own email
receipts via a custom program). You would actually be suprised how many
merchants use (and depend on, according to the many heated complaints received
when it was taken out once on accident) that info from the email receipt to
process the order in a third-party app or the merchant terminal of the real-time
gateway they use.

There is other info in the merchant email notification that wouldn't apply to
the shopper as well, like the link to your backoffice to check the orders, and
(in v6.1) a warning if you are not viewing your orders in the backoffice via
SSL. The email is meant to be a notification to the merchant and has
merchant-relevant info in it, so if you want to use it as a customer service
tool instead, then you will need to manually delete that info.

Hi Richard,

we do send a shipping notification to our customers letting them know their
parcel label number for online tracking using the merchant email order
notification.

Due to the fact that this email contains the link to the back-office and I
do not trust anybody here to be 100% reliable to always remember to delete
the infos that are not relevant to the customer, I have set up a separate
computer. This computer is only used by shipping for printing the parcel
lables, parcel lists and to send the shipping confirmation by email. We do
use MS Outlook. In the email options I have turned of the "quote original
email when replying", so that a blank email shows up when you hit reply. The
email is then filled used a macro with the text and using a bar code scanner
to fill in the parcel label number.

The only thing that the shipping guy has to get right is to scan the parcel
label sticker from the delivery note to the matching email. But even that
has only a 98-99% success rate.

My suggestion, if you do not want to give away your back-office URL: Do not
reply to the merchant email notification or turn off the automatic email
quote in your email program. Rather copy and paste the needed parts in an
empty email.

Regards,
Niko

P.S. People who are unable to bookmark the back-office of their own online
shop in their browser are not really people who should run an online
business in my opinion. I vote to make this obsolete URL line at least
removable by option in the store preference settings.

I'll second and third that vote (to make this obsolete URL line at least
removable by option) as I run two different sites each running different
versions!
