Shopsite wwwinstall Issues

Postby AJZaradich » Tue Jul 13, 2010 7:19 pm

Hey all,

Guess I better jump into head first into the question since I'll probably word it wrong, but here it goes.

Basically the company I work for is trying to transfer shopsite from one hosting website to the other. Since I was brought in half-way, I'm assuming they did this totally wrong.

Our old hosting was on Network Solutions and they transferred it to GoDaddy (same domain name). When they moved it over they just copied the files and folders from one location to the other expecting it to work. Low and behold, it doesn't. Surprise surprise.

Now we don't want to have to go through the trouble of re-creating the website and adding the entire catalog again, nor are we really looking for paying to have it fixed (unless we absolutely have to).

Now we have the files from the old Shopsite install and now we want to try installing it again (the older version since godaddy only offers version 10). I try running the install from wwwinstall.cgi and I get an Internal Server Error. Now when GoDaddy installed version 10 it worked perfectly (I uninstalled the current version I have already). So I'm unsure why the install files will not work correctly with this version.

I believe we're using either shopsite 7 or 9. Are these files available for download since I may possibly be missing files? In the install directory there is no store.auth or .bak that the installation instructions through Shopsite calls for, which leads me to believe that it could be missing key files.

Now that I have you nice and confused, I will await your response. :)

First of all what OS was the old store on and what is the Godaddy server OS? If you were on Linux and the new is windows it won't work same if the old was window and new is FreeBSD. The OS must be the same. That could be why you get a server error.

The auth file for the store is kept in the store's data directory and will be named what ever the login name for the backoffice of ShopSite was with a .aa extension so <storeid>.aa. A symlink to the authfile will be in the ss or bo and sc or sb directory. If you have the install files for your old store you should place a copy of the <storeid>.aa file from the old store's data directory in the install directory and name it store.aa. The install will name it store.bak when the install completes successfully.

Just copying the files usually won't work because it seems like no two servers are configured the same way so paths for various things vary. Also there are a number of symlinks that do not move well and have to be recreated if the servers do happen to have the same configuration.

Note that instructions on installation can be found in the help at
http://shopsite.com/help/10.0/en-US/ins ... stall.html
special instructions for moving a store can be found at
http://shopsite.com/help/10.0/en-US/ins ... intro.html

If you need to get a copy of the install files you should contact ShopSite sales using the contact info at http://shopsite.com/contact.html where a phone number and a link Contact ShopSite Sales will lead to a form where you can request the information.

Thanks for the reply Jim!

Yes, the old server was Linux and the new server is Linux. I don't see anything in the data directory with an .aa extension referring to the old login, but I do see a store.bak already.

I also ran /wwwinstall.aa from the browser and noticed a couple things.

++++++++++
datadir: /home/don/www/data
bo_dir: /home/don/www/cgi-bin/ss
from_addr: jerome@fakeurl.com
bo_reg_url: http://fakeurl.com/cgi-bin/ss
image_url: http://fakeurl.com/shopsite-images
image_dir: /home/don/www/fakeurl.com/shopsite-images
tar_loc: /bin/tar
sb_dir: /home/don/www/cgi-bin/sc
locale: lpscript-English:en-US
sb_reg_url: http://fakeurl.com/cgi-bin/sc
outputurl: http://fakeurl.com
outputdir: /home/don/www/fakeurl.com
currency: |USD|$|-$#,###.##||
sendmail_loc: /usr/sbin/sendmail
++++++

Basically it looks like it might be trying to look for /home/don/. Now when they moved Shopsite to the new server, it's no longer /home/don/ as the path changed when they renamed all that fun stuff. Possibly this could be the issue?

This is pretty much the last thing I can think of. I'm literally driving myself insane with this.

Also is it possible to somehow get the older shopsite version so I can just do a base install with that and then try to attempt to migrate the old database into it? The older version is: "ShopSite Pro 9.0.3". Obviously the database is tied in with the old StoreID, which I have so I'll have to go through the documentation on how to implement it after an install.

But if the above hosting path isn't the issue then I'd like to get my hands on a copy of V9.

Edit: Replaced the real url with the fakeurl. I'm a nervous nelly like that.

If accessing the wwwinstall.cgi through the browser presents the server error right off the bat, then it probably has nothing to do with the wwwinstall.aa or store.auth files, the wwwinstall.cgi may be corrupted (an ASCII/Text FTP transfer would corrupt a binary .cgi such as this, for example) or does not have proper execute permissions or is not in a directory with proper execute permissions or is not in a directory where the webserver allows cgis to execute in.

That could also be it, I wasn't the one who tried to do the transfer from one host to another.

Main thing is, is V9 still available?
