Hi, Loren, I know you and I have discussed things similar to BA's objections
before,
so I think you know where I stand (love you guys though
. I would love a
little more dynamic flexibility as well.
Maybe a variation of Lauren's suggestion:
Or maybe a popup alert "The item you are attempting to order has a limited
quantity available. There are currently X available. Would you like to add X
of item Blah Blah to your cart. [OK - add to cart] [NO- return to shopping]"
Just a thought.

Maybe a way to enhance custom pages with the ability to dynamically display
the quantity on hand.

In my humble opinion, I think it would be useful and productive to have a
check box on the order form that the customer could toggle on if it was
"ok
to hold a backorder". This would save a lot of back and forth emails/phone
calls when a product is out of stock and you need their permission to hold
a
backorder.

I think there should be an option to let customers order out-of-stock
items
and let
them know their order may be delayed, or not to let them order any
quantity
above
what's in stock.
And, if you don't let them order out-of-stock items, automatically
adjust the
quantity in the basket. If the customer has to adjust the quantity, they
may
not
understand what needs to be done.
Thanks,
Phil

BA,
In your (humble) opinion, what should happen if you are using the
quantity
box
on your store pages and a shopper wants to buy 10 of an item but there
are
only
5 available? Currently what will happen is that all 10 are added to the
cart,
and a warning is displayed that only 5 are available, and then they
can't
checkout unless they change the quantity of that item down to 5. Is
this
correct, or should the amount automatically be decremented to 5 when
they try
to put 10 in the cart or should they just not be allowed to put it in
the
cart
period if all of it is not available? Any other opinions?
