Can Shopsite work with feeds sent from Fillz?

Postby zeus1337 » Sun Feb 07, 2010 9:50 am

Hi,

I purchased a shopsite pro kit well over a year ago, but have yet to utilize its full potential because its a little hard to manage things with the ease I would like. My question today is about a service offered by Fillz.com - They take a basic inventory feed, and send that information to various marketplaces. You can set up "custom" marketplaces, but they will only offer the technical specs on how to set it up, and won't offer you any help at all. So, I need to find someone who can tell me if this can even be done.

Can Shopsite even receive a data file with multiple items to upload?

What information does Shopsite require if a feed is possible?

Can anyone help me review the custom settings information on Fillz from these links?:

http://wiki.fillz.com/wiki/index.php/FillZ_Custom
http://wiki.fillz.com/wiki/index.php/Market:Custom

It would be very helpful if I could figure out what is possible, first. Otherwise, I'm going to be doing everything at a one at a time basis, which is exactly why its been over a year, and my Shopsite webstore has gone no where.

ShopSite can import and export in several formats. Most commonly use are tab delimited and xml. Excel format was added in ShopSite 10.1 sp1. You can pick which fields you want to export and specify different names for them if need be. Checkout the online help at

Thank you for your help. I figured out how to download items, but I am also concerned over the minimum requirements to upload. If I were to submit a file from Fillz, given any of the formats they can send, would that be enough information to list any new items? Or would I have to login to my Shopsite Control Panel and mass edit the remainder of the changes?

There is one part in particular on the following page that talks about the kinds of filetypes that Fillz can export to Shopsite:

http://wiki.fillz.com/wiki/index.php/FillZ_Custom

Inventory File Formats

We can support inventory export files in the following formats:

* Amazon (.txt)
* BookHound
* Homebase 2.X (.txt)
* UIEE (.msg)

You can check with the marketplace directly to determine which file formats are acceptable.

If the file coming from Amazon's format is .txt, but it still has columns like "sku" instead of "Product ID", will Shopsite be able to read the data file? Or can it use any of the other file formats listed above?

There are over 100 fields for each product in ShopSite. When you upload the data into ShopSite you can match the header row of your input data fields with the field in ShopSite that best relates to that information. Without knowing exactly what is included in the format of the file it is hard to say how things would match up.

Same goes for download, 100+ fields which by default have the ShopSite field name but you can specify what the field will be called in the download file. You can select as many or as few of the fields as you need to use. The only required field is the Name of the product.

I would recommend that you get a demo store at http://shopsite.com/demo.html#manage
and try it for your self. If you get a Try Managing Al's Tool Store – a ShopSite Pro store it will already have some products in it that you can try the download and see how it is formatted. If you want to start with an empty store get the Get Your Own ShopSite 10 sp1 Demo Store! which will be a Pro Level store without any data in it.

To Upload or Download products you go to Utilities > Database and select the option you want to do. You can get help for any screen by clicking on the red ? on the right side of the navigation bar.

If you can get a sample file that you want to try and import then I could step you through the import process.

I could use the demo site to test this, but as I stated in the first line of my original post:

So I've been toying around with it for some time, but the problem now is being able to have everything run pretty much automatically. That is, the data gets sent from Fillz to Shopsite, and the orders are retrieved to Fillz when one is made on Shopsite. Your suggestion about mapping column headers to ones that Shopsite can understand would actually work great in terms of importing the correct data.

I downloaded my current inventory file and haven't tried uploading one with changes yet, mostly because I was unsure of how many of the 100+ fields would be required. Currently, the only fields required for me to list in most venues are the sku, condition, price, quantity, and asin, although I like to provide an item note, catalog path, and title in addition to those. Could it be possible to upload only that limited information? I can make items individually, but I'm hoping to take a list of 500-1000 unique games and upload them all at once, in the easiest way possible.

I appreciate all your help. I really hope I can get my Shopsite store up and running this year!

Yes you can upload just that few fields. Note that product Name is a required field so you could probably put the title in that field

For automating the process you should review this section of the help
http://www.shopsite.com/help/10.1/en-US ... pload.html

Note it requires the xml format to do the upload programmatically.

As far as orders go you can use the xml format to do it automatically
http://www.shopsite.com/help/10.1/en-US ... -auto.html

You could also use the Order API feature and write a program that would automatically send the order information at the time the order was placed
