SSL Configuration Assistance

Postby Jim Graham » Wed Aug 08, 2001 8:10 am

I have recently purchased a SSL certificate and installed it on my server. I
have modified the ShopSite store settings to use the SSL when customers
order from our site. I am having a problem though with getting any browser
to show that this is truly a secure connection.

Most Websites use a lock icon on the bottom of the browser window, howver, I
get nothing when I enter our shopping site. I can get it to appear when I
manually enter the site by using the HTTPS url name.

Am I missing something simple here ??? Any assistance is greatly
appreciated.

This is because your shopping cart window is winthing a frame. The
browsers will
only show the lock if the main frameset page is secure, not the frames
within
it. There is an option in ShopSite to open the checkout screen in a new
window
so your shoppers can see the lock. You can find this setting in Commerce
Setup
-> Order System ate the top of the Shipping Screen section. You can set it
to
open in a new window entirely or to bring the cart frame to the top, both
will
show the lock.

This probably isn't the problem but make sure all images are coming from
your secure images directory, not your media directory. If any images isn't
coming from the secure directory, you won't get a lock.

Well,

No you are not missing anything. ShopSite 5.x changed the name of the
license id. This id is used to be your domain name listed in the address
bar, like
https://www.domainhoster.com/shop-bin/ss and so on. Now the id is 20 digits
long and it pushes all the https information to the left and makes it
impossible to read.
To prove this, put your curser on the address and press your "home" key. The
https:// will magically show up.
