Multiple Product Image Fields

I just wanted to top this thread one last time to see if anyone has worked out a solution for this with their own site..

Using the advanced method of presenting multiple images I get the main image like I've always had it, but the extra images are presented at full size and I haven't been able to figure out a way to have them show as extra_small thumbnails even though that is what the back end has selected for them..

In an ideal world they would show as extra_small thumbs that you could click on and pop up in a lightbox like the main image does.. Am I wishing or should I go to using my own defined variables to make this work the way I really want it to?
