Some suggested changes

Postby Ben Ziegler » Thu Jul 18, 2002 11:49 pm

Currently using 5.0 on Windows 2k, and I have had a few ideas for
suggestions when 6.2 comes out...

1. Global image attribute setting (do this like global changes on pages and
products - you can choose which attributes to change, like width, height,
alt text, v and hspace, and (add this one) align)

2. Overall site attributes - text link alink vlink colors - do this
somewhere in the backend, so that every new page that gets added has these
attributes to start with (there may be a way to do this presently, but I
haven't discovered it yet...) I currently use custom templates, and the
default colors are not what I need (they are stuck on one of the default
template colors). I realize one way to do this is to create a custom
template of my own from the ground up - I attempted this already, and it is
too involved for what I need (time is not worth it).
Also, if a default font could be set, rather than having to make sure I have
font tags everywhere, that would be nice - another time saver.

3. Don't know if this would be possible, but an easy way to change the
default media directory so a different name can be used for the folder (this
might be something I can change as well presently, but like above, I haven't
run into anything obvious)

4. A way to have all my work done overnight by little elves... Tall order,
but I'm sure the tech-guys/gals at Shopsite can handle it!

Yes, and the following would be awesome:

1. Buyer registration so people don't have to enter their data each time...
but make this OPTIONAL. They can register if they want, and not register if
they want.

2. Coupons that expire after one use. This way if a customer has a credit
towards new products or we want to give him $5.00 off his next order because
of a problem with his last order or something, we can create a one time code
for whatever dollar amount or percentage we want and they can use it ONCE...
then it expires.

3. A way to integrate more with StoneEdge's Order Manager. Shopsite could
get inventory amounts, order history, tracking numbers... stuff like that
from Order Manager. I believe Order Manager can already do some of this
stuff with MIVA carts. Order Manager posts that data online.

In fact, I believe Shopsite and StoneEdge should work VERY CLOSELY together
to integrate their software. Just think of the possibilities!! It would make
Shopsite into a shopping cart in it's own league!

Please please please! These would be great!

Remember, the programmers don't necessarily look at this forum so any
suggestions should get submitted at
http://www.shopsite.com/help/contact/enhancement.html as was suggested
numerous times in the past.

Ryan -

I have discussed this with an appropriate person at ShopSite and explained
what we would need to add the same integration with ShopSite that we have
with Miva Merchant. That includes one-button order downloading and inventory
level synchronization in both batch and real-time modes. We are waiting to
hear from them if they are willing and able to give us what we need. Once
they are ready, we could have those features implemented in a few days.

Re: Some suggested changes

Postby Barney Stone » Sun Jul 28, 2002 5:15 pm

Stuart -

It sounds like you really need something like the ECom Assembler to
drastically speed up your website development. Keep in mind that we also do
a lot of custom programming for ECom Assembler and Order Manager users. For
example, we have users who periodically receive updated product lists from
their vendors. They then have to deal with price changes, new products and
products that are no longer available. We have written custom programs for
them that import all of that data from their vendor-supplied databases,
spreadsheets or text files, adding and discontinuing products as needed, and
recalculating retail prices based on custom formulas as their wholesale
costs change. The ECom Assembler can then re-build all of their pages in a
few minutes, and in very little time their whole website is updated.

The combination of the ECom Assembler and the Order Manager may also be able
to help you with the order option issues that you described in another
recent post. It was not clear exactly what your clients need, but you can
have products in ShopSite that have order options associated with them, then
have the Order Manager convert the selected SKU plus the selected option(s)
into a specific SKU for the exact item variation that was ordered. That SKU
is used for inventory control, etc. The other features of the Assembler
should let you set up and maintain the combined More Info pages and other
catalog features that you want.

If you have other workflow concerns, such as automatically deleting web
pages that are no longer needed, we may be able to help automate those
functions, too.

Whatever inconvenience there is in keeping a local copy of your product data
is more than made up for by the convenience of having the Product Manager
features that are included in the ECom Assembler, so you can add your new
products conveniently off-line, then upload the resulting text file into
ShopSite.

I suggest that you give us a call during the week so we can discuss how we
may be able to help you.

that work remotely with ShopSite's database as opposed to recreating a

second database locally

I agree. I front end database module that integrates or interoperates with
the online DB or something that synchs the online and offline DBs (because
items like inventory need to be synched) would be great. I am in a position
here we may be changing (occasionally updating, but mostly adding and
removing) 500-1000 products per week and Access is getting a little clumsy
for these purposes (could you imagine doing this with the web interface of
Shopsite?).

I have not investigated Order Manager or ECom Assembler yet.

Once

Yes, and the following would be awesome:

1. Buyer registration so people don't have to enter their data each
time...
but make this OPTIONAL. They can register if they want, and not
register
if
they want.

2. Coupons that expire after one use. This way if a customer has a
credit
towards new products or we want to give him $5.00 off his next order
because
of a problem with his last order or something, we can create a one
time
code
for whatever dollar amount or percentage we want and they can use it
ONCE...
then it expires.

3. A way to integrate more with StoneEdge's Order Manager. Shopsite
could
get inventory amounts, order history, tracking numbers... stuff like
that
from Order Manager. I believe Order Manager can already do some of
this
stuff with MIVA carts. Order Manager posts that data online.

In fact, I believe Shopsite and StoneEdge should work VERY CLOSELY
together
to integrate their software. Just think of the possibilities!! It
would
make
Shopsite into a shopping cart in it's own league!

Please please please! These would be great!

Currently using 5.0 on Windows 2k, and I have had a few ideas for
suggestions when 6.2 comes out...

1. Global image attribute setting (do this like global changes on
pages
and
products - you can choose which attributes to change, like width,
height,
alt text, v and hspace, and (add this one) align)

2. Overall site attributes - text link alink vlink colors - do this
somewhere in the backend, so that every new page that gets added has
these
attributes to start with (there may be a way to do this presently,
but I
haven't discovered it yet...) I currently use custom templates, and
the
default colors are not what I need (they are stuck on one of the
default
template colors). I realize one way to do this is to create a custom
template of my own from the ground up - I attempted this already, and
it
is
too involved for what I need (time is not worth it).
Also, if a default font could be set, rather than having to make sure
I
have
font tags everywhere, that would be nice - another time saver.

3. Don't know if this would be possible, but an easy way to change
the
default media directory so a different name can be used for the
folder
(this
might be something I can change as well presently, but like above, I
haven't
run into anything obvious)

4. A way to have all my work done overnight by little elves... Tall
order,
but I'm sure the tech-guys/gals at Shopsite can handle it!

Thanks,

Andy -

If you have access to data about the new & discontinued products in a text
file, spreadsheet, database, etc., we could help you automate that weekly
process. We have done similar things for other clients. Give us a call if
you are interested.

I would like to see modules

that work remotely with ShopSite's database as opposed to recreating a

second database locally

I agree. I front end database module that integrates or interoperates with
the online DB or something that synchs the online and offline DBs (because
items like inventory need to be synched) would be great. I am in a
position
here we may be changing (occasionally updating, but mostly adding and
removing) 500-1000 products per week and Access is getting a little clumsy
for these purposes (could you imagine doing this with the web interface of
Shopsite?).

I have not investigated Order Manager or ECom Assembler yet.

I would like to see the two companies work together in the area of Ecom

their local order systems just because Order Manager integrates with
ShopSite. My clients spend thousands of dollars on custom programmed
ordering systems that are not about to be replaced anytime soon. Order
Manager's features would need to be integrated with ShopSite's database
which I don't think will happen overnight. If they could integrate Ecom
Assembler, that would help current Webmaster's serve clients more
quickly
and reduce the cost we charge to do our work. I would like to see

Please Shopsite, for the love of all that is good in this world, let
Barney do
this! All Shopsite/Order Manager users would become instant

this type of functionality!

I have discussed this with an appropriate person at ShopSite and
explained
what we would need to add the same integration with ShopSite that we
have
with Miva Merchant. That includes one-button order downloading and
inventory
