How to set up Discount that is triggered by $ of Group

Postby kelsey@richmondrc.com » Fri Mar 06, 2009 12:02 pm

Question 20090306_1050:

How to set up a Discount that is triggered by the $Value of items ordered from within a Group rather than Quantity or total order value.

Background:

Consider a store stocking 10 balls and 10 rings.

We want to offer a discount based on the $ sum value of all balls ordered. Say 10% off if the sum of all balls ordered exceeds $200.

Do not want to offer the same discount on rings or have the value of rings ordered affect the discount applied to the balls.

Workarounds attempted:

Have considered Discount based on order total, quantity of an item, coupons and rewards but none of these seem applicable to applying a discount to a group based on the order sum of the group.

Have considered drop down discount selection for each item in the group that the customer elects knowing that they qualify but this is likely to generate some orders that in fact do not qualify for the discount.

The only discount that is based on a $ amount is the Discount Schedule found under Merchandising > Discount Schedule where you can set the discount amount or % off. That discount is applied to the entire order not just certain products.

The Product Quantity Discount Across Products will allow you to set the cost for items in a group (1 for $5. 3-10 for $4.50 11-25 $4.00 etc) Although this doesn't give you a discount based on the $ amount you can set the discount at certain levels i.e. 3-10 get a 10% discount from the each price) You can set different products in a single group or multiple groups so for example you can have Balls and Bats in one group and Rings in a different group. Balls and Bats would be combined to get the discount level for each based on the total quantity but Rings would be excluded from that count.

So the Product Quantity Discount Across Products would give you the best approximation of what you are asking for. This feature was added in ShopSite 9 and is in the Pro level only.

Shoot. This is exactly what we would like to do. We would like to set a discount schedule on a product group. We have over 10,000 products with several different vendors. It is not practical to apply one discount to the entire order for us, since we get different incentives from different vendors. We would like to assign certain items to a group and then offer percentages off if they order over a certain dollar amount in that group. Are there plans to add this in the future?
