Duplicate Links on Search Results Page

Postby cameron » Sun Jan 25, 2009 9:26 am

For whatever reason, when performing a search, I cannot get the search results page to display the link only once. The one on the right side of the image is automatically generated and I dont want it to be.

Do i need to do something to the product or search templates? If so, what?

Any help would be appreciated.

You can see my problem by going to www.pongman.com/index.html and searching for "irons" ... I only want to keep the link I have inserted which is below the graphic. The one on the right I cant even figur out how its there.

Thanks!
Erik

Rob,

could you take a look at the new question I posted above (about duplicate links) and let me know if you can shed some light on how could be happening.

Much appreciated

Try changing the search destination under "Edit Product Info" so that it is not set to "moreinfo". Also check out this post:

I tried the first suggestion you had and that didnt work. In fact, that made the products someetimes not even show up in the search (when selecting none)...

The second suggestion you had was an article I came across earlier and I wondered where do I put the:

[--DEFINE LINK_TO_PAGE--]
[--END_DEFINE LINK_TO_PAGE--]

... on the search template?

You create a custom page template with just those two lines in them, and then assign the Link Template override to this new template under "Search Layout".

Hmmmmmm, I just tried exaclty that and those second links are still showing up in the search results page.

I created a custom page template with just those two lines in them, and then assigned the Link Template override to this new template under "Search Layout".

Totally Stumped....

I think it has something to do with the Name toggle in the Search Layout under Preferences > Search Settings > Search Layout.

Try unchecking it to see what happens.

In your template, get rid of the </br> tags, they should be <br> NO SLASH.

Take a look at the last post in this thread:
http://support.shopsite.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=5904

With a destination of moreinfo, you will get an automatic link inserted by the program and if your product template has a link to the moreinfo as well, that would be your second link.

Rob,

If I dont have moreinfo selected then how will I link to the page with more product details?

Also, I've been on that thread at least a half a dozen times today and I just cant seem to place where I need to change this.... :(

I appreciate your time.

btw ... this is what I have for the search product template overide... Im keeping it as simple as possible at this stage. Just a sidenote, there is no price for these products, its "call for pricing" and that is why I used the PRODUCT.Field1

[-- DEFINE PRODUCT --]
<a href="[-- PRODUCT.MoreInfoURL --]">[-- PRODUCT.Graphic --]</a> <br>
<a href="[-- PRODUCT.MoreInfoURL --]">[--PRODUCT.Name--]</a><br>
[-- IF PRODUCT.Field1 --]
<b>[-- PRODUCT.Field1 --]</b>
[-- ELSE --]
<b>[-- PRODUCT.Price --]</b>
[-- END_IF --]
<br>
[-- END_DEFINE PRODUCT --]

If you see anything that I should add in there, please please please let me know....

:? Erik :?

OK OK OK .... I think that it finally sunk in.

What Rob has said is exactly what needs to happen here. The tricky part for me is that I was trying to do it within a template when in fact I needed to go into each product and select the the other radio button under "search destination"

At this stage I left the field blank. Im not sure what I could put in that box.
