Payment Type Error

Postby drigler » Sun Jan 11, 2009 1:58 am

When I configure Payments to expand payment options from just credit cards to include Check or Purchase Order or Generic, the Shopping Cart page displays the options with no radio buttons or any other means of selecting the payment type. This results in a 'Payment Type' error if the user clicks Checkout. Any idea as to what may be the problem?

Are you using a custom shopping cart template? If so, try switching to one of the default shopping cart templates (for example, sc_default) in Commerce Setup -> Order System -> Layout and see if that helps.

Thanks for the reply, but no, we're not using a custom shopping cart template.

Have you contacted the company that hosts your website to see if they can help? That should be the first line of support.

Maybe a url to the store would be helpful so we can see exactly what you are seeing. Also an image of the Commerce Setup > Payment screen would be helpful to see how you have thing configured.

Our ISP suggested we come to this Forum. I cannot provide a live link showing the problem, as this would break our site. We are forced to accept Credit Card payment only (which bypasses a Payment option selection step), in order for our customers to successfully check out - otherwise they encounter the error. Here is some other info:
1. Version 9.
2. Payment Configuation page used to expand the Payment options:

3. Resulting Shopping Cart page after Saving the configuration. Note the Payment options contain only text strings and no radio buttons or dropdown menu.

If your ISP is a ShopSite partner they should be able to contact ShopSite support for assistance in resolving the issue. If not then you should purchase a support incident at http://shopsite.com/support_pricing.html Access to the backoffice of your store will probably be required.

Note that I tried going to http://www.beancreek.net and clicked on the Products link and the page never loaded. I don't know if this is the correct url for your store or not. But if it is there are more problems than just the shopping cart.

I was hoping someone would have had the same or similar behavior, but alas, I will proceed down the channels of our ISP. Thanks for your advice and input. Just for the record, though, our shopsite is www.JewishCard.com - I only used my husband's beancreek.com domain to get my jpgs posted quickly. Thanks again.

This is probably because of bad/incorrect HTML you have placed surrounding the text 'Select payment type'. I see and unclosed </font tag in the source of your checkout screen right after the text 'Select payment type'. It is likely affecting the initial shopping cart differently than the checkout screen because of the different HTML surrounding it that comes from the template. So if you will go to the Preferences -> Store Text -> Shopping Cart and fix your custom HTML that you have placed around the 'Select payment type' text and click Save Changes at the bottom, then try to re-enable your new payment type and you will probably find that the issue is resolved.
