IE 7 complains

Postby RedSyntax » Wed Dec 31, 2008 12:15 pm

An interesting occurrence has developed, read on:

When customers visit our site and click checkout and proceed behind the ssl cert the following error dialogue box appears:

This page contains both secure and nonsecure items. Do you want to display the nonsecure items?

I have been tasked with remedying the situation. My mind is boggled and I cannot for the life of me figure out what causes this "error".

I double checked that all images were in fact using complete path string that ca be found in the back office under hosting services. everything is where the where the ssl cert specifies.

Has anyone seen or herd of this particular activity? Any help would be welcomed. If i find a solution I will post it here and share. Happy New Years!

Any access to an image or css file or external javascript that is being referenced by a non-secure url will cause this error. So view the source of the page and search for http:// and see if there are any of those type of files. If there are then you need to change the reference to them to be https://

Note that <a href ...> links don't cause this problem, just references that load something to the screen.

Thank you for your reply and I was able to get buttons and header and footer elements to play nice not trip ie 7's complaints.

When I got to the back ground image element however it still complains and now refuses to display the secure image or any image.

Upon closer inspection of the parsed page with the HTML toolbar I discovered the image was being referenced like so:

https://www.vdcusa.com/shopsite_sc/medi ... itamin.gif.

Again, Thank you for your help -- Would Shopsite's JavaScript throw this error/warning up?

No that is something the browser does when it finds non-secure content on a secure page.
