Grouping cart line items

What i need is away to arrange cart items together. I understand that consolidating individual line items in a cart it only one instance of a can of soda pop verses each individual instance of the same soda pop can. I am attempting to write a for loop that would re create the shopping cart table to achieve this result. Has anyone ever seen this functionality at a shopsite store? Is there a back office way of doing it so I don't have to recreate the wheel?

There is no way to bunch similar products together.

Since the table of products in the cart is all output by a single tag I really doubt that you would be able to code anything that would do what you are wanting to do.

ShopSite 9 added Quantity pricing groups (Pro stores only) so that items can be assigned to a group and when a certain quantity of items from that group are added to the cart they will all receive the discounted price. But there is still no way to join multiple lines with the same product into a single line for display purposes.

Well then my next question would be how can I suggest the consolidation of individual line items to the makers of this fine e-commerce tool?
