Wholesale Pages & Products in Separate Directory - How

Postby kelsey@richmondrc.com » Mon Dec 22, 2008 5:30 pm

In order to have consumers access Retail Pages and Products while providing Resellers with access to separate Wholesale Pages and Products that are password protected it was advised by SiteAdmin in the reply to an earlier post to do the following:

There are a couple of ways that this can be handled.

1. Have 2 separate stores one for retail and one for wholesale.

2. In a single store you can create separate pages and products for the retail and wholesale customers. have the wholesale pages under a separate directory that you password protect and only give the password to your wholesale customers.

As to solution #2, how

a) Do I force the Wholesale Pages to end up in a different directory?

b) Do the wholesale Products go in the same directory as the wholesale pages?

Thanks Much for any assistance.

to force the pages in to a separate directory you need to do this

1. Create a new directory 'wholesale'
2. Set the permission on that directory to 777 (chmod) you can do this from your file manager panel with your host
3. when you set the 'file name' of your product make the file name

wholesale/filename.html (or php) if that is how you are naming them..

This will drop those particular pages in the wholesale directory.. Then with a password protected directory only people with the password can see them..

I hope you don't have a lot of products, that could be a lot of copying product pages to do this.. But, after looking at what I just typed I wonder if there might be an easier way to do this..

Products and Pages in Wholesale Directory?

Postby kelsey@richmondrc.com » Mon Dec 22, 2008 6:55 pm

Thanks much for your advice. Should the "Wholesale" directory contain Products and Pages applicable to the Wholesale scenario?

No worry about the number of products, we generate them automatically and run the dbupload.cgi and generate.cgi scripts.

Thanks Again.

That's what I would do.. Anything that you want only wholesalers to see should be in that directory..
