setting up shop

Postby Beauty Cafe » Thu Jul 11, 2002 7:57 pm

In the process of setting up my first ShopSite and looking forward to it!!

In setting it up, there are a couple of things I can't seem to figure out.
Firstly and most importantly, my navigation of pages. I would like a set of
pages that list my departments (baby care, fragrances, bath and body, etc).
Under those pages I would like to have vendor pages. Example Baby Care, has
a link to Little Forest and Davies Babies. I would like my products listed
on the respective pages by Vendor. How would I go about setting this up?
Actually, I think I may have this solved.....but still testing!!

Secondly, in selecting a theme, is there the ability to be able to select
the colors of the framed borders. They are much too dark for my website. I'm
looking for a more pastel look. If this is not simple, how do I locate
someone who can take one of the existing templates and change the colors
just a bit?

Thirdly, if I wasn't able to get the Navigation to work the way I wanted, I
was going to use the OrderAnywhere and just rebuild my site all together
using FrontPage. However, in testing, FrontPage dropped the opening and
closing HTML tags and nothing would work.

Well, I don't know where to start but here goes...

First, don't use FrontPage... it inputs too much unneccessary code and I've
found that it often causes problems with the tags in ShopSite stores. Adobe
GoLive or Macromedia Dreamweaver are great programs to use... or hand code
the pages.

Second, try using the custom templates and themes instead of building your
site and adding the order anywhere tags. That way you can still administer
your site through the ShopSite interface. You can add products to pages,
delete products from pages... all from clicking a few buttons. There is help
on ShopSite's help site about how to make custom templates and themes, even
a few sample templates.

We use custom page and product templates throughout our store, and use Adobe
GoLive to make all the templates. We update the pages with simple HTML tags
through the ShopSite Text1,2,3 fields and by adding products to pages.
