Ooops! Help me fix my cart please!

Postby zeus1337 » Mon Nov 10, 2008 5:16 pm

I have been really frustrated over the lack of help I am getting with Globat. They keep telling me if I have technical questions, to contact ShopSite. I contact ShopSite and I'm told its my hosts responsibility to answer some of these questions. I am either unlucky or I made a bad decision in using Globat.

That being said, I have spent most of the time learning this myself. So my shopping cart wasn't displaying item images correctly, so I tried getting help with Globat. When I did not get assistance, I tried looking things up myself. I found the Store Preferences > Hosting Service section and I think I found the problem.

See, I'm telling the Shopsite interface that I want to use a picture from the dir /media/ps1, so the images are displayed as bargaingamingdepot.net/shopping/media/ps1 and when they are displayed on checkout, it is displayed as rhodes.globat.com/~bargaingamingdepot.net - so I found two spots on this page for "Store Preferences > Hosting Service":

1)Shopping Cart secure URL
2) Secure Store URL

I changed the two of these to bargaingamingdepot.net instead of rhodes.globat.com and saved. The I tried the checkout again and it did not work! However, this time the pictures showed up. When I clicked "checkout" I got an error page saying something about needing to go through *.globat or something to that degree. Anyway, I changed the url back to rhodes.globat.com/~bargaingamingdepot.net/cgi-bin/sc and the checkout works again, however the pictures are broken links, again.

And what's worse is I don't know what was in the "Secure Store URL" section. I tried putting in my store url, then I found out that just redirects you back to my store front page when you are trying to proceed to paypal!

Help!

The "Secure Store URL" maps to the secure url that will access your store pages. Try this one.

https://rhodes.globat.com/~bargaingamin ... /shopping/

I should have mentioned that was the first thing that I tried.

If that isn't it then you'll need to get with Globat support to find out what it should be.

Note that I can see images at:
https://rhodes.globat.com/~bargaingamin ... ing/media/ such as the add_to_cart.gif so that is a secure directory for your store.

Ok, when I click "Orders" and "Payments", both try to go to https and I get this message:

Secure Connection Failed

www.bargaingamingdepot.net uses an invalid security certificate.

The certificate is only valid for *.globat.com

(Error code: ssl_error_bad_cert_domain)

My domain host keeps telling to that I need to ask Shopsite and that they aren't in charge of that stuff. I can't believe I'm stuck with them for 2 years at least.

Scratch that...

I changed the https from bargaingamingdepot.net to rhodes.globat.com/~bargaingamingdepot.net and the pages load fine...

However, the reason I changed these settings in the first place was because I was trying to fix images from showing up broken during checkout (because images are loaded from "/media/ps1"). The images switch over to rhodes.globat.com/~etc instead of directly from my domain. So, trying to fix one problem I created another. I didn't fix the problem in either case, lol! Is there a way to fix this? If you add an item to my cart, you will see the picture, but when you go to checkout, it will not show up properly.

You cannot use your own domain name in https:// URLs unless you purchase your own SSL certificate for your own domain name. Even then it may not be possible with some hosts, because your site also has to have its own dedicated IP address in order for the SSL certificate to be installed on it, and depending on how your host is set up this may not be possible or practical for them (most hosts also charge an additional fee for a dedicated IP).

So you should continue to use your hosts SSL domain for your secure URLs unless you can get your own SSL cert. It's unfortunate that someone there told you they couldn't help you with the secure URLs, since they are theirs and something that would have been configured initially in your ShopSite by whomever at their company installed your ShopSite in the first place.
