AVS Problems Experienced

Postby George B. Hug » Tue Jul 02, 2002 4:46 pm

Hello All,

Our store seems to be failing a very high number of orders on AVS. In the
past few weeks, we are loosing up to 30% of our sales because customers, or
our customer support staff (who use the Shopsite interface) get AVS errors
when trying to process orders.

Many of these customers are corporate users with corporate cards that they
assure us are good. They often have the billing address/statement right in
front of them.

Has anyone else experienced this lately? Does anyone have any suggestions,
short of turning off AVS and risking fraudulent sales?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

George,

I finally turned my AVS off after continual and regular complaints
from customers getting errors. It's not worth the hassle and lost
orders.

We too have deautomated. AVS is done in the background when the customer places
the order but failure does not stop the order from being accepted. When the
order comes in a human inspects each one and can check to see if it passed
AVS. What we have found has been disturbing. I don't know if all AVS systems
work the same but ours tends to decline any order using a po box. We have not
been able to get this resolved due to a bunch of finger pointing but our AVS
system for Discover cards is reversed. In other words if the card is correct,
the system declines it.
