Shipping to Canada and/or other countries

Is it possible to set a specific rate, or a surcharge for shipping out of the USA?

What type of shipping are you using?

There is no built in way to add a surcharge just for certain countries. In the Pro level there is a surcharge option which can be configured. This surcharge requires that the shopper select a particular option, so although you could configure it to have US be $0.00 and foreign to be $10.00 unless the shopper actually selects the foreign they wouldn't be charged that amount. I.E. you can't force a certain surcharge based on the country. This might be possible using some javascript and doing a check of the country value and if it isn't US set the surcharge to a specific value, but that isn't something built into ShopSite.

You could also use a custom shipping add on (which you would have to create) that would check the country and return the shipping value for the foreign country along with the surcharge you want. This would mean that you have to use the custom shipping add on for all shipping charges because if you don't the shopper could still select another option if it were available and by pass the surcharge.

Hi Jim, Sir Yendor, et al.

We've got a similar problem: we offer shipping to the USA and Canada, and offer two modes of shipping in the USA: standard (cheap) or expedited (pricey) and one mode in Canada (pricey).

For simplicity, we price shipping by the $ size of the order, but unfortunately, a number of our Canada customers select standard, and their order comes through with USA standard shipping selected, which we would like to disallow.

It seems like we need a custom shipping add-on, and don't have the development skills in house. Anyone here work with a developer they could suggest for this project? Have a script we could borrow?

Thoughts welcomed.

Thx
Chris
