2 Merchants/3 Shipping Methods!

Postby Dylan » Fri May 31, 2002 3:49 pm

I've got a problem. I have 2 different stores using the same shopping cart.
The problem is that they use different shipping methods and charge
differently. http://www.VoltCity.com uses UPS. http://www.RitzyGifts.com
uses USPS and FedEx. Now, if I enable the USPS and FedEx prices for
RitzyGifts, they show up for VoltCity.

VoltCity was built first and has over 1,100 products. They are shipped by
weight.

RitzyGifts is the newest site. It has about 15 products.

I tried to trick the shopping cart and put NA in the weight field for the
USPS and FedEx options for the VoltCity products. Unfortunately, the fields
only allow numbers!

How can I get around all this and use shipping methods that only apply to
certain items? I.E.: Show different shipping options for different products?

Again, I want to ship VoltCity stuff UPS and RitzyGifts by USPS and FedEx. I
need either a way to have certain shipping options to show up in the
checkout and others not to. Or, if they all have to be listed, I need a way
to say, for instance, next to UPS (not available) for the RitzyGifts
products.

How can I do this?

Thanks,
Dylan

The only way I could even "imagine" being able to do this is by
entering the products into your database twice - using different
SKU numbers.

vNNNNLLL
rNNNNLLL

v products get one cost and associated shipping
r products get a different cost and shipping

A big notice in your shopping cart - products with a vSKU do not
have X shipping available, products with rSKU do not have X
shipping available. Please doublecheck your order for appropriate
shipping to prevent delays in fulfilling your order.

Seems like the nightmarish tracking involved wouldn't be worth
the cost of another shopping cart.
