two front pages

Postby capsaicin » Fri Mar 28, 2008 8:31 pm

I am taking over a website from my brother and would like to know why there are two front pages that are identical. One is the shopsite generated page and the other is created in dreamweaver and uploaded as index.html . The url of the shopsite page is www.tastethepain.com/shopsite_sc/store/html and the one generated in dreamweaver is www.tastethepain .com and is not included in the sitemap generated by shopsite. Can someone explain this to me ?

Thanks in advance,

Some merchants want to have their ShopSite store set up in a subdirectory of the main domain so they can keep non-store content in one location and store content in another. It looks like this is how your store is configured.

Typically in that situation a page in the root of the domain contains links to the store pages. This page may be an actual page or a link to the actual page in the store directory.

Looking at the source of the pages at http://www.tastethepain and http://www.tastethepain.com/shopsite_sc/store/html
they were both generated by ShopSite as indicated by the statement in the source
"meta name="generator" content="ShopSite Manager 9.0.2 (sc - tab_page_template"

So either the index.htm in the domain root directory is a link to the page in the shopsite_sc/store/html or someone made a copy of the file there so that shoppers would get the same initial page whether going to the root domain or to the store part of the domain.
