Silly Problems?

Postby Packer » Tue Mar 04, 2008 9:44 am

Hello all,
not sure how common/rare this problem is, so I havent provided any screenshots as of yet, but will do so if the answer isnt clear.

I work at 2 companies (who both use the same building) and as of today both have ShopSite's.

The first company, Power Adhesives, website works fine. I can add new products and edit the main page content, but the website was already up and running when I got here, so I have no idea what the template looked like when it was first given to us.

Now the second company, Packer-Products is a little bit of different. we have basically been given the template containing Trainers / Shoes as products, and I doubt I will have trouble editing or adding new products etc.

My problem is, with the POWER Website, I look at the 'Edit Content' page, and I see all the HTML that makes up the page, and from here I can either copy and paste it into Dreamweaver and make changes, or edit the text by hand.

But with this brand new site, the Text 1 and Text 2 fields are pretty much blank apart from maybe a title.

So how do I go about changing the content on the home page, when I cant find the code that makes it up?

Thanks for reading, and Thanks for any help !

Lewis,

Maybe the main page wasn't created by ShopSite? Do you you have a page in the ShopSite backoffice of the store in question that has the filename of index.html? (If you have a Pro store you can use the search functionally to find out quickly)

Ok, so I think I did the right thing, and searched for the 'index.html' page.

Ive attached both the ShopSite view image, and the front end image.

This image is obviously the front, what the user see's and the black bit that I have circled, is the bit that I want to be able to edit, change etc. But I cant see the code that I need to edit? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Here is the backend of the website. Not much going on here I dont think.. I was expecting to see loads of HTML, or at least the code for all of the images etc. However, I got nothing.

Thanks,
Lewis.

Did you check the Header under Preferences > Page Header and Footer?

I don't see anything circled in the image you posted, but it looks like that page was created by a custom page template from SD360. Since the majority of the HTML is probably in the template and the template determines what ShopSite backoffice fields appear on the page and where, then you will probably need to contact the company that made this custom template regarding what you need to do to customize it further.

Your right, sorry, forgot to save the image I had circled.. It was basically the shoes and the green writing I wanted to edit..

I assumed that I would need to edit it through the shopsite, but its alright, I will just change it via the index.html code and upload it.

I do however have another question; Sorry :P

At least one of my pages (index.html) contains a PHP script right at the top, something to do with the breadcrumb system..

But the page is a .html and therefore the PHP wont be parsed.

Do I need to rename (and possibly relink) all the pages that contain PHP to have the site work correctly?

Cheers,
Lewis.
