UPS Feature / Much needed S&H Fees

Postby Steve Ross » Thu May 16, 2002 5:05 pm

I'm a long time Shopsite user and finally convinced a few clients to upgrade
to pro v6..
mainly due to the UPS feature... only to find out its not properly working
as any shipper would need.

First, I think you are working or have fixed the rates... you need to have
residential, and or some way to toggle between them.. but not to allow the
user to make this choice.

And mainly what its lacking is to calculate shipping as weight(ups
rates)+oversize fees if any(heard you are working on box dimensions)+service
options (signature, cod fee, Saturday delivery, etc)+ handling fees... yes
the most important part... Who ships out products without charging for the
box, packaging material, tape, and man hours to box it?

We need choices on how to handle this.. perhaps each product should have a
added handling fee amount field. Now that might work for some clients.... I
know some will say yes my products are freight paid..., and some products
its $4 S&H.. or perhaps UPS+$2.00

There needs a way to be able to mark items as to not calculate shipping
charge for (Band-Aid: zero weight) or to add flat amounts or % levels...

How we figure rates now due to various ground vs air rates to be able to
pull a decent profit and cover handling fees is simply a across the board..

For example, UPS ground rates we increase by 28% then round up to not have
odd cents amounts.. $6.34 would be $6.35 or $6.40 lets say. For Air
shipments we change to 15% though.. I'm sure many companies would use a
"across the board" flat rate or percentage markup to cover their handling
charges..

IMO, all the shipping options besides by weight are mainly useless by most
clients.. but the more options the better to more suit each indivual client

UPS was a great add.. not just perfect it... it will be great to just have
them enter their zip to get their proper tax rate & shipping & handling
costs.. right now at least 75% of all orders my clients process have
incorrect info on them, & these changes ...It would be a nightmare if I use
an online payment processor, fornatuly all my clients process manually and
prevent alot of mistakes & fraud..

Touching on fraud for a sec.. any chance of built in address verifications
(zip code matches city) etc or perhaps things like information checking..
Like my clients only ship to the billing address of the credit card.. and
only to the card holder... thus if it sees name on card varys from purchaser
would flag it, or any type of verification other than simply charge
verification.
Right now we use visual, a zip code checking program, and address
verification on all orders before we even try to charge them?

Anyways, many ideas.. feel free to contact me in depth on shipping issues
but I'm sure u can figure something out.

If you don't have ShopSite 6 to test this with, you can sign up for one
of the demos at http://www.shopsite.com/demo.html and place some test
orders then download the files and try your import. Note that according
to the documentation at
http://www.shopsite.com/help/6.0/en-US/ ... at.qb.html
, Quickbooks 2000 or newer on Windows is supported, but this could
simply be because the Mac version wasn't tested.
