Help with product categories and tree

I'm new to shopsite, but somewhat fimular with HTML, Dreamweaver, Miva, and a little Yahoo!Store. I can't figure out how to create a left category tree like the following site

execpt for hard coding all the pages. I wnat them expandable and to have sub categories. i.e. mens/jeans.html and womens/tops.html. I think I make different templates for men and women, but I'm not sure. Could someone please point me in the right direction. Thanks

I had something simular in my website, but removed it this week. Build the menu tree using an INCLUDE template, then put the [-- INCLUDE includename PROCESS --] in your templates where you want the menu to appear. That way you only have to maintain it in one place. You will also have to link your javascript in each template.
