Cart Checkout Page

Postby kmcneely » Sat Feb 09, 2008 3:49 am

As a non-profit all items in my cart must be based on donation. I have used variable pricing to allow for this, but would like to have the ability to adjust the Subtotal at checkout.

Is this possible and how?

Thanks.

There is no way to automatically adjust the subtotal in the cart. The price for variable price items is what the shopper (or you through the way you configure the add to cart) enters for the price.

You could use coupons to make some changes to the cost of items but I don't think that is what you are referring to?

Jim,

Thanks for your response.

I am looking for a way for the shopper to increase or decrease the subtotal (donation) regardless of the value of the items placed in the cart.

Is this possible?

Since the subtotal is a calculated price the only way to change it is to change something that is calculated into it. That would include deleting or adding products, reducing the quantity of a product, adding a coupon or qualifying for a reward that would make a product free.

If you had a product that was $1 then you could have the shopper add the number of items that they wanted so the total price would be based on the quantity they specified. (i.e. If they want to pay $10 they would add 10 to the cart.) If they want to reduce the amount they pay they could reduce the quantity in the cart.

If you want them to be able to make a donation you could have a variable price item included in the text of the shopping cart so that they could make an additional donation by adding that product to the cart with the amount that they wanted to give.

Thanks Jim,

These are all scenarios that I have thought over, but none were quite the solution I was hoping for. I have seen some sites with the opportunity to directly change the subtotal to a lesser amount at checkout and was hopeful that I could find a way to do that in SS.

I believe I will have to use option pricing (Zero or Suggested Donation) then give the shopper the opportunity to add a variable donation at checkout as you suggested.
