Shipping charges by dimesions AND weight . . .

Postby owiuser » Thu Feb 07, 2008 1:51 pm

So we currently sell items by weight, however, very soon, we will be adding items with unusual dimensions (approx. 3.6 ft. x 4 in. x 12 in.). If a customer orders one item (whose shipping is calculated by weight) and another item (whose shipping is calculated by dimension), how is the shipping calculated for the entire order? Or more to the point, how should we set up the shipping with so many different item sizes?

Thanks for any help you can offer!

If you are using the ShopSite UPS integration for shipping rates, the merchant's information, customer's information, and product information are all sent to the UPS server to calculate the rates. The rates are then sent back to ShopSite to display to the customer. In most cases merchants will just enter the product weight for shipping rates. However, if you have a product that ships by itself in an unusually shaped package then you would also want to include the dimensions for that product. If you include both the dimensions and the weight then both of those are sent to UPS for the rates to be calculated, and it is assumed that product is shipping by itself.
