Most of my Pictures disappeared

Postby hiamps » Wed Jan 30, 2008 11:24 am

Most of the Pics on my website disappeared the other night. I try and upload them again and they seem to be in media but when I click view Pictures I get a square with a red X. Hostcentric my web host, doesn't seem to have a clue and say I made some change. Does anyone know of a change I could have made to cause this problem?
Here is my latest responce...

Adam,

I am not sure what is causing this but I do have a few ideas to help narrow down what the issue might be.

It looks like the image that they uploaded is in your ShopSite store. It can be viewed at:
http://swanscandles.com/store/media/Sunset.jpg

When you go into your ShopSite store > Images > Sunset.jpg > View Image, right click and view the image properties (you cannot right click in IE, you would need to use a different browser such as FireFox). See if the URL for the image is the same URL that I have listed above.

Another thing that I noticed on your website is that many of your images that are not showing up do not have the file type on the file name. For example the image, 4oz_soy_candle, does not have .gif or .jpg, or any other file type specification. This is not a great format to use, but it typically works. However, for those images, if you right click > View Image, you are automatically taken to your home page. This can be a server setting where if a file does not have a file type, assume that it is incorrect and return to home page. If this is the case, you would need to add the file type onto your images (such as 4oz_soy_candle.gif) then go into your product information in ShopSite and reselect those images (otherwise they would still be set to the image with the file type, 4oz_soy_candle, rather than with it, 4oz_soy_candle.gif). You can then republish your site and see if that fixes the issue.
