Unused files?

Postby Al Koehler » Mon May 13, 2002 3:31 pm

Hi,
We have Pro ver 5.01.6
There are allot of files that we don't seem to use, like in our sb/ssmimages dir... there
are sub directories like EN-us, and every other country, ie..EN-uk.. can i delete all the
images in these other directories, we only us the US version and have no plans of leaving
any time soon.
thanks

If you look a little closer you will probably see that (unless you are on an NT server) the
only directory that is a real directory and actually contains files is the en-US directory,
and the other en- locale directories are symbolic links to it, so there is no extra space
being used there. I would recommend not deleting them.

Shopsite used to show parts and use Search function?

Postby Kevin Sullivan » Mon May 13, 2002 5:15 pm

Hi,

I have a client who wants to use Pro 6.0 to show their item specs, info,
image and a pdf file download link for each item. I am looking into the
search function to determine if this would work.

The parts have 3 categories Termination, resistors and accenuators? Then 3-4
sub-levels.

So you can order a Termination, 10 watt, chip only, beo then get to that
specific product:

EG:

1) Termination
10watt,20watt,30 watt etc
chip only, chip with leads, flanged
type: beo, beo2 or beo 3 or aln or aln1, aln 2 aln 3

2) Resistors
10watt,20watt,30 watt etc
chip only, chip with leads, flanged
type: beo, beo2 or beo 3 or aln or aln1, aln 2 aln 3

3) Accenuators
10watt,20watt,30 watt etc
chip only, chip with leads, flanged
type: beo, beo2 or beo 3 or aln or aln1, aln 2 aln 3

Can the shopiste Search be configured to handle this?
Anyone else using shopiste to show parts and not for the cart?

Thanks Kevin

Hi Loren,
I did look closer and I downloaded all the files to my hard drive and they are not empty, they
are all repeated buttons , logos, etc.. all the same images in all the en..directories...
I'm not on a nt server.
Any thoughts was it installed wrong?
thanks

I can pretty much guarantee that the other en- directories are symbolic
links, this means when you go inside them you will actually be in the en-US
directory, so of course the files there are real.

If you are using a graphical ftp client to look at this, there may or may
not be any indication that they are symlinks. On the UNIX commandline, if
you ran a command like this:

ls -l

in your ssm_images directory you will see something like this:

lrwxrwx--x en-AU ->
/usr/local/etc/httpd/htdocs/html/eval/shopsite-images/en-US
lrwxrwx--x en-CA ->
/usr/local/etc/httpd/htdocs/html/eval/shopsite-images/en-US
lrwxrwx--x en-CX ->
/usr/local/etc/httpd/htdocs/html/eval/shopsite-images/en-US
lrwxrwx--x en-EU ->
/usr/local/etc/httpd/htdocs/html/eval/shopsite-images/en-US
lrwxrwx--x en-GB ->
/usr/local/etc/httpd/htdocs/html/eval/shopsite-images/en-US
lrwxrwx--x en-IE ->
/usr/local/etc/httpd/htdocs/html/eval/shopsite-images/en-US
lrwxrwx--x en-JA ->
/usr/local/etc/httpd/htdocs/html/eval/shopsite-images/en-US
lrwxrwx--x en-NZ ->
/usr/local/etc/httpd/htdocs/html/eval/shopsite-images/en-US
drwxrwx--x en-US
lrwxrwx--x en-ZA ->
/usr/local/etc/httpd/htdocs/html/eval/shopsite-images/en-US

Note that the first bit of the permissions string indicates that all of
these except the en-US are links, and they all point to the en-US directory.
Depending on what FTP client you are using, there are probably different
ways to see this same information. For example, in WS_FTP the DirInfo button
will give you a UNIX-like directory listing similar to the one I just
pasted.

You can go ahead and delete these files if you want to try and test this,
but I won't be responsible for what happens :-) I just hope that you back
things up before you start deleting.
