Optional Customer Registration

Postby kingsf » Wed Jan 23, 2008 12:45 pm

We are just setting up our system and we would like to give our customers the option of registering or not. Some customers like to have their information stored and some do not. Is there any way we could give them a choice about registering?

Yes, Just don't require it. Commerce Setup > Customer Registration > Configure > Shoppers must register: and set it to No.

Thanks for the prompt reply. We were really looking for a way to have it both ways - to let customers register if they want to or to check out without registering if they want to. I assume that if we set the "Shoppers Must Register" button to "No" then the entire registration feature is turned off. Is that right? Is there a way we can give our customers a choice about registering?

The option to turn on registration is in the same place and is called "Customer Registration:" with On and Off options. If it is On then the links to register and signin will display and if it is Off they will not display.

If it is On and you have the No option checked for Shoppers must register: then they may choose to register before ordering or they may order without registering. If you have the Yes option for Shoppers must register: checked then the shopper cannot checkout without registering or signing in if they were previously registered.
