Yet Another Template question

Postby Winterfellow » Fri Jan 18, 2008 10:35 am

So far I am more than pleased with ShopSite compared to our old software (Mercantec SoftCart) but I have a couple things I cannot figure out.

I am using a modified version of the CrossSell sky template, and if you look at the link http://alllabs.com/shopsite_sc/page17.html you can see that the Header image is bordered on the left and the top. I have played around with diffrent HTML code in the header, but to no avail.

How do I get the header to take up the entire width of the 'white' part of the page and align all the way to the top so that there is no white border? Can I do this in the header code itself or do I need to modify the template. If the template needs to be modified, do I do that in the XML file or somewhere else?

Also, the left side navigation tab background color seems to be the 'visited link' color? Is this by design? How do I declare the navigation tab area to be a different color?

Last question: Is there an easy way to get the More Info pages to display a similar navigation area w/out individually changing each product (we have 700 products  ) ? I am quite comfortable working with the database so if I could do it that way it would be easy enough.

Thanks.

Well never mind the question about the header. I just coded the header directly into the custom template instead of having it refer to the universal header accessible via preferences and that solved that problem.

Still working on the grey nav buttons etc.

For the grey nav buttons you would need to modify the style definition for the style they are using which I think is "navBar". I'm not sure which file that is included in but it should be one of the first includes in the page template.

As for the moreinfo pages navigation, this would have to be done in the product template in the [-- DEFINE MORE_INFO_PAGE --] section. Since a product knows nothing about the pages of the store you will have to place the html for the navigation directly in the template (or use an include file with the html). You can view the source of a page that has the navigation you want and copy and paste the navigation from there to the product template.

Well let me be the 10,000th person in these forums to say 'Thank You Jim!"

I used the Custom Template page's Copy Include files feature to copy the cross-sell vars include and the cross-sell CSS files, edited the new vars.sst to refer to the new CSS include, edited the main template to refer to the new includes instead of the old ones; and then was able to find the #navBar area in the CSS include to change the background to white instead of referring to the visited link color variable.

I hope getting that same nav bar on the More Info pages will be this... heh-heh.. straightforward.

Cheers and Thanks.

It wasn't easy but it worked:

http://alllabs.com/shopsite_sc/page12.html and any of those More Info pages show the template customization as well :D
