Pages and Buttons

Postby CreativeMind » Sat Jan 05, 2008 6:17 pm

Hi all,

I am new to ShopSite. I have created 1 page with some products listed within the page. However, I would like to customize the page to look like the rest of my website. I have been looking all over the place within ShopSite to see if I can open the page and look inside the coding to make my changes. I even open up Dreamweaver CS3 within the Remote Site and open up all the folders in there and not able to locate the page. Does anyone know how I can modify my page to look like my website? Do you know where I can find the coding for the page I created?

Another problem, within the page I created, I wanted to add a link next to the Add To Cart button but I can't find the coding for the page I created. How do I add a link to another page within the page I created?

I also wanted to add my own customize buttons to replaced all the shopping cart buttons but I can not find that either?? I looked into the Media folder within Dreamweaver and it's not there. I would like to delete all the buttons within ShopSite and replace them with mine.

Last problem. Where are the pages for Registration? These pages are for people would like to register before the buy products. Right now, it's just a blank white web page with Sign In information and 2 buttons. I would like to customize those pages as well but can not find the coding for those pages??

Thanks!!

ShopSite pages are generated by templates. There is a separate template for the overall look of the page and another for the layout of each product assigned to the page. You select the template for the page on the Edit Page Layout screen and the product on the Edit Product layout screen. (Note that if you don't see these options when you click on the Pages or Products screen you are in the Basic editing mode and will need to click on the Advanced Editing button at the bottom of the Pages or Products screen.

In addition to the template you have a number of text fields in both pages and products where you can put descriptive text that you want displayed. Where that information is displayed on the final html page is based on where the template has is located.

It is also possible to define a global Header and/or Footer under the Preferences > Header / Footer. These can be displayed on each page if the template so designates.

Another problem, within the page I created, I wanted to add a link next to the Add To Cart button but I can't find the coding for the page I created. How do I add a link to another page within the page I created?
What type of link are you trying to create, to a non-ShopSite generated page or a ShopSite generated page. Would the link be to a page with more information about the specific product?

I also wanted to add my own customize buttons to replaced all the shopping cart buttons but I can not find that either??
Upload your button images to ShopSite using the Images > Upload Image options. Then you assign the button images for the shopping cart screens under Preferences > Store Text and then the page for the specific screen the buttons are on i.e. Shopping cart, Checkout, Customer Registration etc.

Where are the pages for Registration?
Again the Customer registration screen are generated by template. You specify the template under Commerce Setup > Customer Registration > Configure. There are lots of text messages that can be customized both on that screen and on the Preferences > Store Text > Customer registration to make the screens look and say what you want your customers to see.

Editing of templates is done under Merchandising > Custom templates. You can either start by making a copy of the ShopSite template that you like and modifying that or you can start from a blank template and create your own. You might want to take a look at the online help for templates to get an under standing of how they work. There is a tutorial at
http://www.shopsite.com/templates/tutorial/ it isn't complete yet but gives a good explanations of the basics.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the quick reply!!

I wanted to add a link to the product detail page. I think I will have to create the product detail page within Dreamweaver and have it link to it. I am still trying to find a way to add a link code next to the Add to Cart button.

By the way, when I view the page I created with some products in there, why is there only 1 View Cart button and it's way on the top>left corner of the page? Isn't it suppose to be next to the Add to Cart button. It looks really goofy! But it's showing only 1 View Cart button and I have added 5 products within that page. The only things that is shown next to each product is the brief description of the product, QTY text box and the Add to Cart button. Where is the View to Cart button and how to I add that button next to the View to Cart button.

Thanks!

It is by design that some templates only display one view cart button per page, so if you want to have one by each add to cart you would need to select a product template that does it that way or create your own product template that has both. Most of the large stores that I shop at on line only have one place on the page to click to view the cart and not a button for each product.

Most ShopSite product templates will create a more information page and links to that page from both the product graphic and product name on store pages. Just make sure that for the product you set the option to create the MoreInformation page on the Edit Product Information screen. (note that only Pro and Manager level stores have the option for More Information pages, it is not available for Starter level stores.)
