Everything is as expected in Fire fox, Netscape, but in IE.

Postby Ivan Varallyay » Sat Dec 01, 2007 5:52 am

Hi to all!

Help! SOS! Help!

I've built a store with ShopSite Pro 9.0. We are testing it now. Everything is working in Firefox, Netscape as expected, but in IE.

Issues in IE:

1./ The Header

In IE there is a background color line under the Header image (owl’s head) and above the Search Field. If I put nothing else in the Header than a Graphic, it will work nice in FireFox, but in the IE. How could I solve this problem?

Here is a link to one of the pages:: http://www.ingyenkonyv.com/ezoterika.html

Here is the code I put for the bgr color and for the Header image:

<div id="masthead" style="height: 80px;">
<div id="univ-header">

<table width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="3" border="0" bgcolor="#c4d8fb" align="center">
<tbody>
<tr>
<td width="930" rowspan="2">
<table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="8" border="0" bgcolor="#c4d8fb" align="center" style="width: 100%;" class="sitesellhome">
<tbody>
<tr>
<td width="95%" valign="bottom" align="left">
<div style="float: left;"> <img width="116" height="80" alt="" src="/media/csak_bagoly_fejlecbe_11_27.jpg" /> </div>

Since I put this code
<div id="masthead" style="height: 80px;">
<div id="univ-header">

it works in a few IE 6.0.2900.2180 but in the most SAME version does not work as it should. Op sys is in every cases: W XP.
Page Template is: gradient1-page.sst

2./ If you go to a MoreInfo page clicking on the book cover on the above page, you get to http://www.ingyenkonyv.com/a-tenyer-es-a-szerelem.html
you’ll see it is OK in Fire fox, but in IE, because of the WIDTHS of the columns.

3./ If you click on Gift Certificate (Vasaroljon ...) link on the Global NavBAr then you see that the shopping cart icon is disappeared in Fire fox as well, — this is not a big problem, but should be nice to fix it — but in IE is the layout already disturbing.

Could you kindly find a solution for these issues?

Waiting for your kind help

I don't know how to fix the problem but IE is adding space around all images not just the ones in the header. If I look at the page http://www.ingyenkonyv.com/ezoterika.html in both IE and Firefox and switch between them I notice that even in the product display area the space between the picture size and the picture (125 x 200 and A TENYÉR ÉS A SZERELEM image ) is increased in IE. So perhaps you need to set a style for images to not have border spacing?

You might want to look at http://forums.asp.net/p/1171925/1963834.aspx which talks about border spacing and a way to get around problems that IE has with it.

I thought I had posted a second reply but it isn't showing up.

#2. Working with CSS and trying to get IE and other browsers to look the same is a nightmare. IE has its own standard while most other browsers try to follow the WC3 standards and they often don't agree as to how thing should be done.

As long as the page is readable in all browsers I wouldn't worry to much about minor differences in the way the page looks on the different browsers. 99.999% of people aren't going to be looking at the same page in 2 different browsers, that is just for developers to do.

#3 You need to edit the javascript and put in the full url for the shopping cart image. The giftcertificate (and tell-a-friend and shopping cart pages) are generated by cgis and are not static html pages. They are generated from the cgi-bin directory of your store and therefore the path to the media directory is not relative to where the cgis are located like it from the static html pages.

Jim,

Thanks again.

A new problem:

The Thank You Page appears in IE with the Template's background color, in Fire fox there is no background color. How could I remove the bgc from the Thank You Page in IE?

I can't get past the registration page in your store so I can't see the thankyou page. The easiest thing to do is to copy the html from the page and save it to a file on your desktop. Then modify the background settings until you get it to work the way you want and then modify the template so it uses those settings.

Sorry I don't speak Hungarian (and my son who does lives in Arizona so I can't ask him) but I can't figure out what "A ket jelzso nem egyezik" ( accent deleted) means so I can't complete the registration.

Jim,

Thank you for your kind reply and advice.

"A ket jelszo nem egyezik" means: "passwords do not match".

The worst thing I've just heard is, there is a PC (W XP) with IE 6.0.2900.2180 and every pages of our store appears broken very confusing on the screen. How is it possible that the the same version shows very different layout?

Have a nice day! (and a solution for me :) )
