Adjusting width of all pages.

Adjusting width of all pages.

Postby pekelney » Fri Nov 16, 2007 3:15 pm

I am trying to use the provided Tabbed templates. What is the easiest way to have all the produced pages limited to 600 pixels width?

The [-- PAGE.PageWidth --] option seems only to have options for percentages, i.e. %100, %75, etc. in the page menus.

Do I have to create custom versions of all the templates to replace [-- PAGE.PageWidth --] or is there an easier way to do this? I was really hoping to avoid custom templates.

I looked at the template and there is no easy way to set the page width to 600 px. The setting Page Width: which can be set to 100% 75% etc only affects the contents of the page below the colored bar and tabs, it has no affect at all on the top section of the page which appears to be using 100 % of the browser width.

Note that if you were to confine the width of the whole page to 600 px the tab links would probably run off the edge of the brower window if you have very long text for link names.

One more question

Postby pekelney » Sun Nov 18, 2007 8:53 pm

Modifying the tabbed templates to enclose each page in a table was pretty straightforward.

Another question, is there a way without modifying the tabbed templates to show all the subproducts in the more info page (default behavior), but not in the main product listing? The main product listing seems by default to show all the subproducts.

How Did You Modify the Page Template for Width?

Postby owiuser » Mon Jan 28, 2008 8:17 am

How did you adjust the page template so that the fixed width was 600 pixels? I need to do the same, but to 700. Thanks for your help!

width

I landed up modifying the provided templates. We wanted black fonts on white background from most test (high legibility), a border background for aesthetics and lastly the controlled width. We also wanted a banner .jpg to appear on all the pages across the full width. This is not fully implemented in the shopping cart templates. Lastly, we tried to correct some of the more egregious html syntax errors created by the templates.

We probably did not do the most elegant job, but you can look at:
http://www.maritime.org/store/
The good news is that after tweaking the templates for him, the store manager has populated and is running the store without my help. They have added tabs, pages and products without too much training from me.

I spent two or three days tweaking the provided templates and then stopped without correcting all the syntax errors. I still think shopsite would benefit by providing a really bullet proof set of templates without css (tables) that implements most if not all of the store manager interface. There really is no excuse that all the pages generated with or without css cannot pass a basic html syntax check. Whatever the dtd chosen, clean syntax will most likely avoid future browser implementation problems.

It may help that we had to modify all of the following files.

/shopsite-data/templates/gc/
tabbed_gc.sst

/shopsite-data/templates/includes/
Product-AddBeforeOptions
Product-AddToCartButton
Product-MoreInfo
Product-MoreInfo.css
Product.css
Subproduct-AddToCartButton
Subproduct-Price
tabbed_giftcert_styles.css
tabbed_sc_styles.css
Tabs-MoreInfo.css
Tabs-MoreInfoPage
Tabs.css

/shopsite-data/templates/pages/
tab_page_template

/shopsite-data/templates/products/
DefaultCustomProductTemplate

/shopsite-data/templates/sc/
tabbed_sc.sst

/shopsite-data/templates/search/
tabbed_search.sst

Thanks for the Page Width Feedback!

Postby owiuser » Mon Jan 28, 2008 9:14 am

Rich,

Would you be interested and have time to do some side work for me (and my company)? I just want to make the pages 700 pixels wide and don't have the time (or knowledge) to figure it out with our existing template. Or maybe there is another template that would work similar, but help me solve my issue? Let me know what you might charge and if you are interested. Thanks!

Unfortunately I am not available to do the work or support it. I did this work as a volunteer in the museum. Any of the regular shopsite consultants should be able to do this very quickly.

If there is a way for you to send me your email I can send you what I did for the maritime museum. You would still have to learn enough to modify them for your own use, but it might speed up the process to see what I changed.
