Remembering Customer Info

Postby Kerry McNulty » Wed May 01, 2002 9:50 am

Allow returning customers to login, and account data automatically
retrieved from a
previous registration seems to be one of Shopsite's shortcomings.

Have any of you found workarounds?

I'm jumping ship from Verio, as they have not upgraded to Shopsite's
version 6 yet and cannot give me a time frame for the upgrade.

I need the realtime UPS integration and a login system for return
customers. I may just go to a Miva cart instead of Shopsite.

I am pretty sure that Miva does not have the UPS integration built-in as
ShopSite v6 does.

Miva 4.1 does have the capability of UPS integration. As well as
customer login:

I am in no way affiliated with Miva. I just happen to be a Shopsite
customer looking for these functions. I am seriously considering a jump
to Miva - they also have many more affordable hosting partners as well.

Requests for a customer registration system have been quite common lately,
which is why I am sure that this will be one of the (if not THE) main features
of the next major version of ShopSite.

Check on the prices of the Miva modules before you buy into it, because the
cheaper base rate you are seeing at some of their partners may not include the
shipping modules, or the payment gateway modules, or many of the other
features that they advertise.

Don't hold your breath, I don't think Shopsite will tackle this anytime in
my lifetime. Clever work-arounds are best bet or else build a complete
custom solution. But, nothing wrong with dreaming.

Tom, I work at ShopSite, Inc., so while I don't speak for the company and am not
one of the decisionnakers here, I do hear the talk, and it would suprise me
greatly if this feature were not in the next major release.

Loren, Sorry for the sarcasm. I look forward to being proven wrong.
Shopsite has some limitations (as with any 'canned solution') that I don't
think are possible for it to break. I think breaking this one will be quite
an accomplishment. In the meantime, you understand, it gets frustrating
trying to find the clever work-arounds.

Features seem to take a REALLY long time to get in releases... I've been
using ShopSite since '98 and am still waiting on some features :-/

Tom,

I have actually found shopsite to be very customizable and robust -
especially for the price. True, we REALLY need customer registration, but
it's not as difficult as you seem to think it is. A few companies have
already built some customer registration modules from shopsite with outside
databases - problem is the price for these modules costs more than shopsite.
I'm sure Shopsite Inc. can figure out how to integrate a customer database
within shopsite. They've seemed to do pretty well with the rest of the
program.

I endorse shopsite

Postby Kevin Sullivan » Thu May 02, 2002 7:54 pm

Hi,

I have been a shopsite user for the last three years and recently decided to
become a shopsite reseller. But I am a user first and formost. I am also a
web developer who has worked with many different shopping carts.

I just wanted to say that I have received excellent customer support from
shopsite, especially now that they bought the company back. In my
experience with software in general, sometimes we don't not get answers from
any software companies as quickly as we would like. But with shopsite I
always at least get an answer, and normally in a timely manner.

No, the software isn't "perfect" but it has most of the important features
needed and the goal is to progress and keep adding (user registration for
eg).

No one is "forcing" me to use shopsite. I support the shopsite people who
work hard at answering our questions and who try to make shopsite fit us
all, a day at a time.

Sincerely,

Kevin Sullivan
