Making a product inactive?

Post by GiftSpecialists »

Is it possible to make a product inactive without having to delete it?

Not really. You can remove it from assigned pages but as long as it remains in the database it could still be ordered from a cashed page.

You could always remove it from the page AND change the price to $9999999.99

That would pretty much stop someone from ordering it.

That is, unless you sell Leer Jets ;)

Absolutely it is.

Remove item from all pages, set search destination to 'none', and turn on inventory control and set all three inventory related fields to 0. Not browseable (unless cached), not searchable, and not addable to cart :)

Is there a way to have a product show that it is sold out? I used to use Zen cart and when a product would reach zero inventory then the product would show a sold out. The nice thing with Zen cart is i would still have customers order that product and just tell me in the comments that they will wait until we get more of the product back in. I dont like that you have to delete the product from Shopsite to not show it when your sold out.
There has to be a better way.

We use a separate template that shows the product as sold out. We also have one for seasonal products that tell them to call us if they want it. You could just as easily create a template that says out of stock, but still allows them to order it.

This way you simply have to change the template that the product uses when it goes out of stock.

Hope this helps,
