Subproduct not shown

Postby shaoen01 » Sun Oct 14, 2007 12:41 pm

Hi all,

I am trying to upsell a sub product to the main product i am selling. So i assigned the subproduct to the main product via the listing of products page. In selecting the subproduct, i also ticked the main product's checkbox as well. But the subproduct is not displayed.

Anyone know the solution to this? Thanks

If you have the product and the main product assigned as sub-products of the main product, and the sub-product is not appearing, then I would check your product template if you are using a custom product template. The product template needs to have a "DEFINE SUBPRODUCT" section and either the "DEFINE PRODUCT" section or MoreInfo section needs to have a "LOOP SUBPRODUCTS" section to make it work.

You would have to see what product template your main product is assigned under:
Products -> Edit Product Layout

If it's a custom product template, then you'll need to edit it under:
Merchandising -> Custom Templates

The help docs should be a good starting point:

Hi Rob,

The template that i am using is an SBI template, which happens to be bundled with the Shopsite software that i bought. So basically, the template in Shopsite follows the one i have in SBI.

In the Mechandizing> Custom Templates section, no page templates can be found. So what do you think i should do?

Check to see if any custom *product* templates are in place, as the product template is what controls sub-products. If not, you may want to ask your hosting provider how to incorporate sub-products into their custom templates they provide for your store.

Hi Rob,

I managed to copy and edit the product template. Now, i am able to add the subproduct to the main product. Do you think it is possible to show the subproducts' images as well in the main product's page? Maybe display the short description of the subproduct as well? Thanks

Sure, you can edit the "DEFINE SUBPRODUCT" section to include images, descriptions, etc... similar to what is in the "DEFINE PRODUCT" section.

So that means within the [DEFINE SUBPRODUCT] tag, i just enter the as how i declare the variables in the Product section? For example, within Subproduct section i enter "Product.Name" and in actual fact the subproduct's name will be displayed right?

You need the starting and ending part of the tag so it would be
[-- PRODUCT.NAME --]

Is there anyway to display the order quantity via a tag manually?
