Product removal and Inventory Tracking

Postby vlm » Sat Oct 06, 2007 6:45 pm

I've read a lot of the documentation, but it's still unclear to me as to what happens when an item reaches zero inventory. When an item reaches zero inventory, I'd like for ShopSite to automatically remove that item from all Product Pages and also from any More Info Pages that display that product as a "You may also be interested in" item.

In case this is relevant: We use Mail Order Manager (MOM) and are exploring the possibility of automatically downloading orders in real time into MOM and then automatically uploading new inventory counts to ShopSite after each new ShopSite order is placed.

We need a way for zero-inventory products to disappear from our web site without any manual monitoring or manual tasks.

Can this be done?

There is no automatic removal of product once the quantity reaches 0. You must manually remove them and republish the store pages to have them removed from the pages.

It is possible to have a custom product template that will not put the product on a page if its on hand quantity is 0. This still requires a publish of the pages but will allow the product to remain in the database incase you can get more to offer at a future time.

Product removal and inventory tracking

Hi Jim, I too have the same problem. You said, "This still requires a publish of the pages but will allow the product to remain in the database in case you can get more to offer at a future time."

Okay, but doesn't it still show zero under a product search? I would like to keep items in my database to use at a later time, but NOT have them show on the product "zero" list. Lynn

If you use a custom template for your search you could stop out of stock products showing by checking the QuantityOnHand field when looping through the search results.

HI Mike, thanks for the info. I'm not the progammer...it's my site and I'm new to Shop Site. Would be developer design a custom template for that search?
