How to replace items on a More Info Page

Postby vlm » Sat Oct 06, 2007 7:05 pm

I want to display four products on each More Info Page under the heading "You May Also Be Interested In..."

Let's say I have an item designated to show up on 15 "More Info Pages" under the "You May Also Be Interested In" heading. When I permanently sell out of this item, what's the best and fastest way to find the 15 pages to which the discontinued product has been assigned and replace it with an in-stock item? What I replace it with will vary based on what the main product is.

Also. Is it possible to assign 6 items to the "You May Also Be Interested In" section but only display the first 4 with inventories greater than zero? That way if one of the items sells out, there are products waiting in the wings to take its place.

You would assign your items as subproducts of the product that the moreinfo page is for. Then in a custom product template you would do a [-- loop subproducts --] section where you want the items displayed. It might be possible to just display 4 items but it would require using a variable (VAR) to keep track of how many had been displayed and then execute a different part of the subproduct template so that the remaining items would be skipped.

When an item reaches a quantity of zero you could delete it from the store and that would automatically removed it from pages on the next publish. In your custom template you could also check if the quantity on hand was 0 and if it was just skip the item.

How do I easily find all the products to which the out-of-stock item has been assigned?
