search list issues with more info tags

Postby geek » Fri Oct 05, 2007 10:24 am

I am having 2 major and one minor problem with my site www.cheapofficestuff.com.

The Major problems
For discussion I am looking at the DOM800 NOTARY PUBLIC book which can be found under Lowest Price Office Products/Dome books. Their if functions normally. The more info page works.

Say we are searching for NOTARY

1. I get a list of all items with NOTARY in it. But the MORE INFO does not show up (we confirmed above it does exist. Any way to get it here.

2. If I click on any of the catagory headings (DOME), it gives me a 404

The minor problem
I would like the sku to be part of the search, any way to have the search pull from multiple sources in the data. Also I would like the SKU# to appear on the screen next to the name, like it does during checkout.

Thanks to all for their assistance.

1) you can have search results link to your More Info Pages instead of the store page the product is on by setting the Search Destination for the products to MoreInfo instead of the default of Store.

2) I would bet you have enabled the Google Analytics feature. This particular problem is caused by a bug in Google Analytics' __utmLinker JavaScript function. This has been reported to Google, but apparently they are slow to move on it. There are several things you could do:

a) ask your host to upgrade you to ShopSite v8.3.1 where because of this Google issue the _utmLinker code has been removed from around the page links on the search results page, see:
http://support.shopsite.com/kbase/view_ ... onID=S5524

b) set the Search Destination for all of your products to MoreInfo (assuming all of your products have More Info Pages). This would fix the problem because the __utmLinker bug only affects URLs with # anchors in them, which would be links to the the store pages the product is on, not the link to the product's More Info page.

c) Get familiar with ShopSite custom template coding and make a copy of the page template your search is configured to use as the 'Link Template Override' template (see Preferences -> Search Settings -> Search Layout) and edit that code to remove the __utmLinker code that is placed around the links in the DEFINE LINK_TO_PAGE section, and then select this edited page template as your 'Link Template Override' template.

d) complain to Google. The more the merrier.

e) disable the Google Analytics feature.

Try the Contact Us link at the top of your Google Analytics account page.
