Shipping Options and Question

Postby Britain » Thu Sep 27, 2007 3:36 pm

I am working setting up the shipping options for a client and I am having issues getting it to do what I want. The client operates his store by doing everything offline. This included all the credit card processing and everything. Therefore, he wants domestic customers to be able to choose the different options for Fed Ex shipping (ground, Next Day, etc.) but not provide the actually costs because he just charges them the actually shipping costs when he goes to ship the item. For international customers, he wants the only option to be USPS and as with the Fed Ex, he charges the actually shipping costs.

Is there a way to get shopsite to just let the customer choose the shipping method, but not show any costs? Is there a way to force international orders to indicate that only USPS is available?

Thanks,

Can anyone help me on this?

I need a way to get shopsite to just let the customer choose the shipping method, but not show any costs?

The customer will be charged the actual shipping costs once the order is filled and the credit card charged.

Thanks,

Go to Commerce Setup -> Shipping and select Flat Shipping and click Configure. Enable as many shipping methods as you will need (you can rename them later) and make sure their value is just 0.00. Save this. Then go to Preferences -> Store Text -> Shipping and set the names, for example 'Ground Shipping (amount calculated after your order)' and 'Overnight (amount calculated after your order)' etc etc.

The shipping price will show as $0.00 in the cart, but the shipping name will indicate to them why, and it will tell you what method they want.

That is how I have it set up now. However, it looks unprofessional and possibly misleading for it to show $0.00 after the shipping method. I just want it to list the shipping methods without listed any mention on price.

I am not sure why this is so hard to configure, I have been to many sites that indicate that the customer will be charged the actual shipping costs when the item is shipped.

There is no way to use the shipping features but not show a shipping price, even if the price is $0.00. If you have ShopSite Pro, you could just set the shipping method to None in Commerce Setup -> Shipping, then use the Custom Checkout Fields feature to collect the shopper's desired shipping method on the checkout screen. See documentation for the Custom Checkout Fields feature here:
http://www.shopsite.com/help/8.3/en-US/sc/pro/custom.checkout.fields.html

and some examples here:
http://www.shopsite.com/help/8.3/en-US/sc/pro/custom.checkout.examples.html

This feature will only put the custom fields on the checkout screen.

However you can put your text to 'indicate that the customer will be charged the actual shipping costs when the item is shipped' on any or all of the shopping cart screens via the 'Text at the top..' and 'Text at the bottom..' fields on the various submenus of Commerce Setup -> Order System, or if you are using a custom shopping cart template you can put this text pretty much anywhere in your shopping cart screens via the custom template.
