Odd Regeneration Issue

Postby royhink » Thu Sep 27, 2007 9:51 am

After adding some 1400+ pages and 4500+ products to my site, I've experienced just a partial regeneration.

When I do a mod on a page or product and click the regenerate button, the resulting screen begins the process, but hangs up without completing. I get the 'please wait while your store is generated' message, but the progress bar never competes.

I've cleared all my temporary files to no avail. I left it running overnight to no avail.

When I check the site, I see that some of my changes were done while others were not.

Any ideas?

Did you try checking your template code to see if you've done anything that might create a loop in logic like having two includes include one another?

Thanks for the reply. I'll double check, but since I tested the site with a small number of products all using the same template, I want to say it's something else.

I did get it to work by unchecking the 'Custom Pages' option (I've got 8.3) and regenerating. Don't know why, but it worked.

Since I'm new to ShopSite, I might as well ask a basic question. When I modify a custom template, is there a better way to 'go live' than regenerating the store?

For testing purposes, there is a faster way. Instead of doing a full regen, just go to the ShopSite Pages section and click on the edit button for a page that uses the template you're working on. Now click the save button at the bottom. You don't have to actually change anything on the page. Doing this will activate the yellow Publish button on the top right of the screen. Now you can publish that one page to see your changes instead of waiting for the full regen to go through thousands of pages.

Of course you'll still need to do a full regen when you're ready to execute your changes across all your pages.
