Page names

Postby JeffBowser » Fri Sep 21, 2007 12:32 pm

I have Shopsite 8.3, the store is at http://www.crosstecsoftware.com/store for reference. In the setup user interface, I enter the page name in the edit page content section to be what I want it to be. ShopSIte insists, however, on naming the pages page1.html, page2.html and so on down the line. How do I correct this to be the page names I enter in the required page name field of the setup UI ?

Thanks in advance

The 'Page Name' field is for a name like 'My Page'. The ' File name' field (on the same Edit Page Content menu, but down in the Advanced Info section) is where you would specify the filename, i.e. 'my_page.html'.

Also note that when you change the file name then the next time you Publish the page will be generated with the new file name you specify, but the old page123.html filename will still be there as well (but will no longer be updated by ShopSite). You can delete those old files via FTP once you have changed all of your filenames and Published the store with the new filenames.

If you previously had not specified a page File name: then the page1.html etc would have been created. Once you specify the page File name: field that file name will be used for pages. However, pages with the old file name are not removed by changing the file name so you would still be able to browse to them. All links in ShopSite generated pages should go to the new page name instead of the old once you publish. Note make sure that when you specify the filename you give it an appropriate extention (i.e. html, htm, etc) or you won't be able to find it in a browser.
