Help with setting up merchant search

Postby artragrafx » Thu Sep 20, 2007 7:24 am

I'm going to try this again since there were no replies to my previous, probably confusing, message.
I am atempting to set up the search for hundreds of products that are already set up in OrderAnywhere.

The original site is www.rackmountsolutions.net
(which currently uses StoreFront as the shopping cart software) I have set up a testing site: www.rackmountrat.com and all the products ar in the 'OrderAnywhere' but the search has not been st up and I need to know the fastest, most efficient way to do this. Can this be done on all products at the same time through FTP (currently using Dreamweaver and/or WSFTP)

Has anyone had to do this? Where do I start, better yet, where do I finish...lol  :?:

Product Search

I'm pretty sure that the Built-in Shopsite Search is not compatible with Order Anywhere pages as Shopsite has no way to index these stand-alone pages.

You may need to look into another Search function. Some hosts provide a free option (I think one is called Swish) or you can look at the Google Custom Search for business which integrates quite easily with a website and can be customized to match the look and feel of your website.

You can include products in the ShopSite search even if you are not using the ShopSite page generation feature. You would have to have ShopSite Pro, and set your Search Destination setting for each product to the radio button where you can specify a URL, and in that field set the URL you want that particular product to link to if found in the search. Depending on how many products you have, this could get tedious. But if you have a few hundred or less, then this probably isn't too big a deal to set up.

Note that the ShopSite search feature still requires that you have at least one ShopSite-generated page in your Pages menu and that it have the 'Index' and ' Product Search Field' checkboxes checked in that page's Edit Page Content menu, or else it would do any indexing for the product search. You don't have to link to this page from anywhere on your site, though, and you can also use the HTML of the search form that will be created on this page to paste into your own HTML documents.
