Database Program for creating Shopsite Uploads

Post by arthur49 »

Hello,

Does anyone use a good database program for creating products/pages and changes, and uploading these to Shopsite?

For many years, we have used and loved Stone Edge Product Manager, but Stone Edge abandoned it after Shopsite 7.0.

Sure, you can do it all with the Shopsite back office, but helper programs/database programs can significantly reduce the workload when dealing with a large, fluid store (we have 10,000 products, 2,000 pages, plus 150 new products to add each week).

Thanks for any suggestions.

Database Program for creating Shopsite Uploads

I have been using an MS Access table for several years on my desktop and upload daily changes and additions to our 12,000 audio book products to our Web store.

I work in native (the actual table) Access without a GUI such as SE Product Manager. This works fine for me, however, I too would like to find a GUI product allowing others in our office to easily add new products without knowing anything about Access.

On Sale whether "Sale On" is checked or not

Post by knucklehead »

I use MS Access as well, but it is a livng breathing thing; I would share it with you if I thought it would be of any use to, but it far too specialized for my products.... Access takes years to master, but you simply cannot beat the price and funcionality once you've mastered IIFs and updates, and appends.

By the by, IBOHEN, would you care to take a look a the post called "On Sale whether "Sale On" is checked or not" and lend your expertise since you use ACCESS to upload changes?
Nothing is ever simple.

Ditto

MS Access will take you very far.

Currently my Access based system makes other order manager blush with envy, but it has taken years to develop.

I am interested in any pre-made options including free or paid. This would include a database in Access.

Stone Edge support for ShopSite

Post by Barney Stone »

I just want to make it clear that although we no longer support the Stone Edge PRODUCT Manager, we still support the Stone Edge ORDER Manager and its integration with ShopSite. In fact, we are wrapping up support for using PayPal with ShopSite, including both traditional PayPal and their credit card gateway (Website Payments Pro).

ShopSite was the first shopping cart that I worked with, way back in 2000, and although we now support 30+ shopping cart systems, ShopSite remains one of the most popular among our users. However, the old Product Manager was only for ShopSite, and we were down to selling one or two copies of it per year, so it was no longer economical to keep training our support staff on it and updating it for new versions of ShopSite.

However, if any of you would like to try using the Stone Edge Product Manager, or seeing if you can modify it to work better for your business, I will give you permission to pass it around and work with it free of charge. Just four conditions:

1. Do not remove the Stone Edge copyrights from the program.

2. Do not charge for it. Make whatever modifications you want, and pass it around freely to any ShopSite users who want it. If you want to turn it into a commercial product, please contact us to discuss it.

3. Do NOT contact Stone Edge for assistance with it! We are already swamped with support requests for the Order Manager, and if we could support the Product Manager we would keep selling it! (Know anyone looking for a tech support job in the Philadelphia area? Have them call me!)

4. Stone Edge will obviously not accept any responsibility for any problems that you encounter using the program, whether modified or not.
Period.

Since the Product Manager is an open source code Access application, anyone who is experienced with Access and VBA should be able to figure out how it works and modify it.

If enough people are interested, we will add a download link to our Web site where you will be able to download the Product Manager. In the meantime, Arthur and any other Product Manager users are welcome to give it out, with the restrictions listed above.

Hope that helps some of you,

For those of you interested in exploring Stone Edge's Product Manager, Stone Edge continues to host the Product Manager User Form here: http://209.235.214.90/forum/default.asp?CAT_ID=4

It does not appear that Stone Edge offers any support thru the forum, consistant with Barney Stone's comments below. If there are existing users, I sure could use the support in figuring out how the program sets up.

I searched for a FAQ or install guide online to no avail.

My IT guru and I are looking at the set up now.

See you there!

Guys -

The whole idea here was to get this out to you without spending a lot of time on it. Can I get one volunteer that I can send it to, who would then give it to others who want it?

The size is about 3.5 megabytes in a zip file.
