require email address on shopping cart

It will be helpful for me to know the email addresses on the customers that shop with me. Will you consider requiring a customer to fill out the email address before entering their purchase on the shopping cart?? It will be helpful to me as a merchant to have that info in case they have issues checking out (USPS cannot calculate shipping or cart abandonment)and I will have their email info on the merchant alerts to follow up. Currently I am using a cart abandonment module by Lexiconn, however the email address info are not available because the shopping cart does not have email info so it can capture.
