"Apply" button for gift certificates

using ShopSite® Pro 14.0 r1 hosted by Lexiconn

My customers are entering their gift certificate and pin, and then hitting "checkout" which sends them to the top of the shopping cart page with an error saying "gift certificate already in use".

so they stop.

Of course if they hit "checkout" again they would be taken to the checkout screen. But not all of them do.

So either:

1. when they hit checkout, just apply the gift certificate AND send them to checkout

OR

2. Put an "apply" button right next to the gift certificate PIN entry box? That then applies
