Residential vs Commercial address verification for shipping

Postby specialtygraphics » Thu Mar 06, 2014 3:13 pm

Shopsite needs to be able to validate whether a provided address is residential or commercial and display to customers only rates based on the validation results. For example, if an address is validated as residential, the shopping cart would only show the FedEx Home Delivery rate instead of both FedEx Home Delivery and FedEx Ground (commercial) rates. The problem is that customers will always choose the cheapest rate shown which is always the commercial rate. We end up paying an extra $2-$3 over what was charged the customer for the residential delivery surcharge. If we set Shopsite to display only only residential rates, we are overcharging all of our commercial customers. Online shoppers are very sensitive to shipping charges and I feel this problem needs to be corrected. Thanks

I agree with this user's comments 100%. Other websites have a box to check if you are a shipping to a business address. When that box is checked, it changes the shipping to Fed EX Ground instead of Home Delivery. If you do this and have it automatically charge for residential unless the business box is checked, you are not screwing the business owner by charging them extra.
