Shipping- items per box

Some of our products are 48" long x 1" or less diameter tubes. In order to get accurate shipping quotes, the box dimensions are entered in the UPS shipping. This works fine as long as 1 item is ordered. However, we can fit several items in the box. So when a customer orders more than one, the shipping calculator treats them as one box each, and the shipping charges become astronomical. It would be nice to have an additional field to put the quantity of the product that will fit in a box, so that if the customer orders 2+ items, only the weight is added and calculated.
