FedEx Ground/Home Delivery Shipping Problem

Hello,

We ship using FedEx services. The problem that we have is that residential customers will almost always choose the "FedEx Ground" shipping option instead of the "FedEx Home Delivery" when presented with both options because it is at least $2.00 lower in cost. Prior to the latest ShopSite released today, we only offered "FedEx Ground" as the shipping option but had the "residential" delivery option selected so it returned residential rates for all our customers. With the new release the "residential" delivery option for ground shipments is no longer available.

To correct this issue I would like to see one of the following changes made to to a future release of ShopSite:

1. The ability to add a a shipping surcharge/handling fee to INDIVIDUAL shipping options. I would like to have the ability to add a $2.00 surcharge to every FedEx Ground rate returned from FedEx.com. This would make up for the residential delivery charge. ShopSite currently has the ability to charge a "handling fee" but it is applied universally to all shipping options which is not what we want to do. By doing this we would only display the "FedEx Ground" option instead of both the "FedEx Ground" and the "FedEx Home Delivery" option. We would overcharging commercial customers by $2.00 per order but this is much better than losing $2.00 on each shipment as residential customers make up the bulk of our shipments.

2. This problem could also be resolved by making customers choose whether they are a commercial or residential address PRIOR TO returning the shipping options and rates from FedEx.com. If a customer selected "residential". then only the "FedEx Home Delivery" shipping option and rate would appear in the shipping option drop down box. The "FedEx Ground" shipping option would not appear at all. If they selected "commercial", only the "FedEx Ground" shipping option would appear.

3. This option is similar to suggestion 2 above but it would incorporate data from USPS that can automatically determine if an address is residential or commercial. The customer would enter the ship-to address and it would be compared to the USPS database. If the address was shown to be residential, only the "FedEx Home Delivery" option and rate would be shown. The same thing would happen for commercial addresses. If an address wasn't found, it would default to residential or commercial at the choice of the ShopSite customer.

Some good suggestions. However point 3 is legally not permitted. USPS prohibits the use of their address verification software for anything other than USPS shipping. There may however be other parties that offer a similar service for a price.
